Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. The first impression that I got about this city was that this city is freaking crowded. What funny about this city is that you can find any kind of transportation you want. So, if you go alone you can go by ‘ojek’, if you go with a friend you can take ‘bajai’, if you go more than two people just considered ‘taxi’. Other public transports in Jakarta are ‘metromini’ and ‘busway’.

"Ayer Island"

Ayer island is one of a ‘Thousand Island’ constellation. It is a great get away destination which located just 30 minutes from Ancol. This island is well known with its wooden floating cottages.

"A place to go"

The water in Ayer island is clean and the fresh air makes it a place to go when you get bored in Jakarta.

Jakarta Go Green that I mentioned to get fresh air, situated at several regions. Lapangan Monas (Koningsplein), Taman Suropati (Burgemesteer Bischopplein) and Danau Lembang (Lake Lembang) at Jakarta central, Zoo of Pasar Minggu at south Jakarta, with Botanical Garden and Safari Park in Bogor, close to the southern of Jakarta. * See my travelogues about Burgemesteer Bischopplein, Buitenzorg and Safari Park.

Diving near Jakarta

If you have some extra time in Jakarta, you may wish to go diving outside of Pulau Seribu (1000 Islands) for a weekend. This short dive trip involved taking a ~2 hour boat ride out of a marina in Jakarta early in the morning on Saturday and spending the night in a island resort. I stayed at Matahari Resort, which in itself was the island, all of a 5 minute walking lap. After three dives on Saturday and two on Sunday, it was time to take the return boat back to Jakarta. The facilities were not extravagant, but were comfortable. Diving likewise was not the best of the world, but beats a good day at work any time. Waters were warm, visibility was ~30ft due to heavy plankton and currents, but that just made the soft corals and small reef fish that much more healthy. There were lots of smaller reef fish and schools, health soft corals, and active nocturnal critters during the night.

Dharmawangsa Square City Walk is located in a nice neighborhood in South Jakarta, near the classy expat enclave of Kemang. It's a fairly new upmarket, smallish and elongated shopping mall. The ceiling features heavenly frescoes painted on it and the mall boasts fashionable galleries and boutiques, small and trendy restaurants and cafes, and music stores. For the young at heart, Singapore-based nightclub, Centro occupies five floors (including the rooftop) at one end of the mall.
