Where to find stone carvings, garden fountains from Bali and central Java

by divingfinatic

Does anyone here have a tip for me? I want to buy some stone carvings, garden fountains, etc made in central Java and Bali.

But on my next trip I won't have time to visit Bali or central Java.

Are there any areas of Jakarta which specialise in stone works and other Balinese works?

And which area of Jakarta will give me the lowest prices? I suppose some of the pricey malls will have what I need, but their prices will probably match the prices I can find at online stone carving websites.

You could try to find it at Sarinah Depat. Store at Jl. Thamrin or do explore the street along Senayan in front of TVRI building (Indonesian TV), there you could find so many florist stalls which sell flowers and trees and also sell some potteries, stone carvings, garden fountains, etc with Balinese or Javanese carving style. Please do a bargaining in price, they usualy offer you 'their' high price, so keep smiling and do a little jokes make them as a friend and bargain half price, , then you could get a good price....haha. Have a nice day inIndonesia

Travel Tips for Jakarta

Temporary Mobile Phone during travel

by traveldream

GSM

GSM is currently the most established mobile phone network in Indonesia. If you have a GSM phone, you can simply buy a prepaid sim card, which is very cheap, but you might want to compare the tariff between operators.

GSM operators in Indonesia and their prepaid card products:
- Telkomsel: Simpati (Hoki, Kartu As)
- Indosat: Mentari, IM3
- XL: XL Bebas

CDMA

CDMA in Indonesia is relatively new, so the network coverage is not as broad as GSM but tariff is cheaper.

CDMA operators in Indonesia:
- Esia
- Mobile 8
- Telkom Flexi

---
For your satisfaction, check with the operator about coverage and tariff.

visit Jakarta's most...

visit Jakarta's most recognisable landmark, the Monas (Monumen Nasional).

Towering 137 meters above Merdeka Square, the best 360 degree views (undeniably) of Jakarta can be seen from the top, mercifully reached by elevator.

Who says u can't go scuba diving in Jakarta

by Perucha

Just go to Thousand Islands, north of Jakarta. Take a morning boat, 1.5 hrs travel time, and there u r...in the beautiful tiny island w/ white sandy beach and crystal clear water w/ colorful fishes & coral gardens. U can also do the wreck dive! When u got there, u wouldn't feel that u r just an hour away from the metropolitan city.
Who says u can't go scuba diving in Jakarta? :-) U can always rent diving gears in the resort

My fiance asked me to ride on...

by rmiya84778

My fiance asked me to ride on the ugly orange thing called 'Bajaj'. Bajaj is a three wheel Vespa powered two-stroke engine (think of it as a fat-bottomed motorcycle, if you don't know what a Vespa is) with an attached carriage. Their obnoxious bright orange color, and distinctive, ear piercing rattling noise, will accompany you along on your ride. This ugly thing constantly vibrates when moving! Bajaj are handy for getting around the city but the ride can be very scarry! So much smoke and make you sick if you ride for long time! The RIDE, reminds me of amusement park! Funny and ugly looking with it's own charm! I made many comments to my fiance and she smilled. So when ever I see these, I laugh for they remind me of HAPPY times with my fiance!
