C3 Hotel: A business hotel

This is Ungaran's newest business hotel. If you must stay in Ungaran town, it is your best option.
All rooms are air-conditioned. The 15 Deluxe rooms have the same amenities as the 7 Superior rooms, but offer more space. There is only one Executive room, targeted at honeymooners. The four Family rooms have additional bunk beds.
The hotel has a restaurant and coffee corner offering Indonesian food at moderate prices. There is no swimming pool.
Published rates:
Superior room: Rp 350,000 plus 21% service and tax.
Deluxe room: Rp 400,000 ++
Executive room: rate 450,000 ++
Family room: 600,000 ++
Try negotiating a better deal. The Agoda rates are cheaper than these published rates!

Hills Joglo Villa: Authentic Javanese

If you want to experience an authentic Javanese ambience, you should stay here. All nine guest units are wooden Javanese houses (joglo's), moved here from there original sites and restored. These houses date back from 100 to 300 years. They have been adapted to modern living standards without structurally altering them. Bedrooms and bathrooms have been designed to fit in with the original layout.

As no two units are the same, some being more spacious than others, you may want to check them all out before choosing one that suits your budget and the number of people needing accommodation. E.g. there are two units where the living space is open to the garden, others have a sizeable living room. If there are just the two of you, you might opt for the studio in joglo 2.

The resort is owned and run by a Javanese-Australian couple, with great care for the environment. They are also collectors of antiques and paintings, which one can admire (and buy) in the gallery next to the restaurant.

Balemong Resort: The most stylish

We stumbled upon this resort when scouting for friends who wanted to stay in Ungaran. We would not have found it otherwise, lying off the main road on the right bank of Garang river. As far as we know the most luxurious place to stay in Ungaran.

In the 4 ha compound several units in traditional style (joglo) contain 18 double rooms of different size and style. Most units are in Kudus style, the most opulant has been adapted from Solo. They are fitted with modern furniture and antiques.

Pretty new: when we visited they were finishing landscaping around the swimming pool, which has an unobstructed view across Garang river on Ungaran mountain.

Apart from the usual excursions in the neighbourhood, the resort features an “outbound area” where on can try one's hand at plowing, rice planting, catching fish, batik and painting.
