Where to stay in Kuta, Bali

by tintinabula

Hi,

My friends and I are going to Bali this March, and we're looking for a cheap place to stay. Our budget per night is no more than USD 12 per person, and we're looking to stay in the area around Poppies 1 & 2 (which as I understand is where the cheap places are).

I found the list below in rough guides, but I've been finding it hard to get information about most of these places. Can anyone help with information/comments about these places or suggest any other places to stay?

Thanks!!!

Bali Sandat Inn Jl Legian 120 0361/753491. Clean, well-maintained fan and a/c rooms right in the heart of the action. $5–15

Kedin's Inn 1 Poppies 1 0361/756771. Twenty-four big, fairly basic, fan-cooled losmen rooms, crammed into a small compound. $5-10

Komala Indah 1 Poppies 1 #20 0361/751422. Compact square of seven clean, well-priced terraced bungalows set around a courtyard garden. $5-10

Komala Indah 2 Jl Benesari 0361/754258. Good, simple rooms in a nice garden near the beach. $5-10

Masa Inn Poppies 1 #27 0361/758507, www.masainn.com. Well-priced hotel with a good pool, sociable garden area and plain but fine a/c rooms. $15-20

Mimpi Gang Sorga, off Poppies 1 0361/751848, kumimpi@yahoo.com.sg. Just seven characterful, thatched, fan-cooled Balinese cottages in a shady garden with pool. $10–40

Puri Agung Gang Bedugul, off Poppies 1 0361/750054. Welcoming little losmen with cheap, sprucely kept rooms packed into two storeys around a minuscule courtyard. under $5

Puri Ayodia Inn Gang Sorga 0361/754245. Exceptionally cheap, quite funky little pastel-painted place with fairly primitive rooms and bungalows. under $5

Puspa Ayu Bungalows Gang Puspa Ayu 0361/756721. Quiet, pleasant spot with sixteen typical fan and a/c rooms and bungalows arranged round a garden. $10–20

Taman Ayu 2 Jl Benesari 0361/754376, 754640. Very reasonably priced and well-maintained bamboo-walled, fan and a/c rooms, plus some bungalows. $5–15

Cannot comment on individual accommodations, however, Kuta has SO many budget hotels and B&B that I am sure that you could walk around, have a look at some (they are all fairly close together) and check the conditions and rooms of some.
Booking these budget accommodations online can be dodgy- they always look and sound better than they are. Maybe book for your first night, and then , if you are not happy, find something better.

There is a new bodget hotel near Kuta called "Tune Hotel" (www.tunehotels.com). Might be a little far from Kuta beach.
What I know from your list that Puspa Ayu Bungalows is not recommended as told by my friend who stayed there before.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to you both, quite helpful. I agree, was worried about booking online!

The website recommended previously is ok, but it is way out of date for prices, so don't really expect to get anything around what is being said anymore.
