My experience with Nikko Bali
by TripAdvisor Member dk_zgb
I stayed 10 days (02.-12.06.2007.) at Nikko Bali Hotel and I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen. The hotel itself is located on the cliff overlooking Indian Ocean, scenery around hotel is breathtaking, ocean views and panoramas are beautiful and, most importantly, the staff is extremely professional, kind and polite. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast is excellent. Hotel has 5-6 connected swimming pools and hotel beach is also very good, although for less experience swimmers hotel pool is better solution due to strong and unpredictable ocean waves. There are also some shortcomings. Hotel is located in the isolated part of the Nusa Dua area which is good for security reasons but bad because the village of Nusa Dua is accessible only with taxi. The prices of food and beverages are much higher (average dinner is about 350.000 IDR or EUR 30) then in neighboring Nusa Dua or Kuta. Since we were staying 10 days we had discount of 20% on all food and beverages that we consumed but we had to emphasize that every time (sometimes even more than once) when we were signing bills for consumed F&B. Since there is high percentage of moisture in the air the room furniture has soaked up the moisture and therefore there is a bit unpleasant smell in the room. The room was very clean but it needs serious refurnishing. The bathroom, although not very dirty was not clean as it should be in a 5 star hotel. But those are all minor shortcomings and I can say that I had excellent time in Nikko and would return again in the same hotel if I were to go to Bali again.

We are regular guest of Nikko Bali resort & Spa. Our last visit was on February 2007, stayed for 1 week. All staff very good and accommodating especially with Frances (our child). Pool was fantastic. Amazing ocean view with beautiful sunrise. Secluded white sandy beach. Everything was perfect. Thank you for a great visit. We love Nikko & Bali.
Enjoyable stay at Bali Nikko Hotel
by TripAdvisor Member DeviSuresh
My husband and I stayed at Nikko Bali hotel from 8th till 11th of May 2007 and we would like to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at the hotel.
We had a beautiful sea view room and the view around the hotel was also very spectacular since the moment we arrived at the hotel. After spending our time going around places in Bali we tried different kinds of food at Nikko Bali's different types of restaurants. The food and and the service at the restaurants were really satistying. Having breakfast and dinner at the hotel while enjoying the view was really romantic. The pools were beautiful and so were the landscapes at the hotel. On top of that all the hotel staffs we met at your hotel were so friendly which made us wanted to stay even longer but too bad we had to leave.
In short, we really enjoyed our short stay at your hotel. That four days and three nights stay at Nikko Bali Resort & Spa really made us forget our work worries back home and let us relax and enjoy our moments together. We would like to thank all of Nikko Bali staff for making our stay there a wonderful and meaningful moment in our lives. We really apppreciate it. Thank you again.

My fiancé and I stayed two nights at the Nikko Bali and we were immediately disappointed once we were greeted so poorly at the front desk. We encountered a few problems in our room such as the safety deposit box not functionning, the airconditionning was also broken down and the toilet was overflowing! We asked for a room change but it took quite long. The next evening, we asked for a dvd machine to be installed in our room while we waited at the bar (it was supposed to be set up immediately) but one hour later, we got to the room and there was no sign of the dvd machine. It took another 20 minutes or so before they were able to set it up and then another 20 minutes to replace it because we needed the remote control and they didn't have one for the first machine.
The decor of the room was outdated. The hardwood floors desperately needs to be refinished as there were scratches everywhere.
Breakfast was quite decent. The pools were okay. The staff could have been more friendly...we could compare to the four other hotels/resorts we stayed at and the Nikko Bali was not on the top of the list for friendliness nor customer service oriented.
I would recommend the Westin if you wish to stay at Nusa Dua. Much classier!
Horrible experience in Nikko
by TripAdvisor Member momandI
We were staying at Nikko Bali Resort & Spa since Wednesday, May 2nd to May 6th, 2007. We booked the hotel directly to its reservation. We have been a long time customer for Nikko Bali Resort & Spa and has been staing in this hotel ever since the hotel is brand new and always stay at Nikko Bali Resort & Spa everytime we went to Bali. Since I was in college until now my son is 3 years old. So, we were always looking forward for our next trip to Nikko. So far we were extremely satisfield with what Nikko Hotel has been offering us, the view is spectacular, the rooms are wonderful, the pool and the beach is beautiful and the staffs are friendly. We were actually went to Bali since April 30th, 2007 and stayed in Melia Bali Nusa Dua because we have been told that Nikko has been fully booked. But still eventhough our trip was great at Melia Nusa Dua Hotel, but it was never been complete without staying in Nikko Resort & Spa in Nusa Dua. We have so much memories in this hotel for years. I would recalled this hotel as our number 1 fave hotel in Bali. It was a BIG mistake to switch hotel from Melia Bali to Nikko this time. We booked Pool Access room, and paid $ 240 something per night which is a very significant money but the room was absolutely horrible. The first night, the air conditioner didn't function well. We asked the tecnician to check the air conditioner the next day, but once again the air conditioner didn't work well in the evening. What happened was that the air conditioner worked during day times and early morning times, but the room was very humid and warm during the night times, usually around 10 PM. We have a toddler (3 years old) who wasn't able to sleep well during our trip this time at Nikko Hotel. It kept like that and during the day time, we always have the technician checked the air conditioner and we became very paranoid about the terrace sliding doors because we have been told that on top of sliding doors on the terrace, we need to making sure that the both triangles should be meet. During night time, all of us became very paranoid and went back and forth to checked the sliding doors and making sure that the triangles sign meets because the room is very humid. I finally placed a strong complaint about the whole hassle we experienced. It was too bad after enjoying the beautiful beach and the pool, we have to get through the horrible room. The room is NOT worth for the price they asked !!!! We finally decided to extend for 1 more night from the May 6th to May 7th and have been told that we can NOT do that because they don't have any room for us. But what is strange was that when we contacted the balinese travel agent to get the hotel voucher that we have been told that the room was available. We did eventually purchased the 1 extra night through travel agent and paid $ 255 for 1 night. Now, I wonder how can a 5 stars hotel like Nikko was not able to offer us any room when we want to extend the room but it took us to purchased from the travel agent to extend our room for 1 more night ?! What was getting more weird that was we didn't have any cushions for our chairs on the terrace and we finally complained about it, they brought cushions only for the bottom while the same other rooms have back cushions and bottom cushions. The guy who brought the cushions told us that they didn't make the back cushions for our terrace. I told them that they must be kidding, because all other rooms for access pool rooms have back and bottom cushions. Then he immediately said that they were currently placing order for more cushions, that's why they didn't have the back cushions for us. When we were complaining about his bad excuses, suddenly he said that he will bring the back cushions tomorrow morning. I said that they must have a miracle because suddenly the back cushions are available after they said that they were still ordering the cushions. What an excuses !!! I just can't stand it anymore and finally placed a strong complained and the next day the guest relation officer which was from Japan contacted me. They just simply appologized. We have been staying in Hyatt, Marriott and Sheraton around the world before and usually if problems occured, especially as significant like what we have experienced, these hotels will offer complimentaries for us. We didn't ask for a FREE rooms, NOT at all, but we just feel for the amount we paid per night, this room just simply doesn't worth at all !!!! You might as well spent your money at Ritz Charlton or ali Intercontinental than staying in Nikko !!
Nice View but DIRTY & Poor Service
by TripAdvisor Member punamo
We stayed at Nikko Bali for 3D2N. We were very pleased with the hotel on our first day. The view was incredible. The hotel is direct on the beach. The pool is beautiful.
In the morning of the 2nd day, my husband told me that was a cockroach in the bathroom. He had to kill it right away because it was wandering around. Then on the way out to visit the Mother's temple (Besakih), we stopped by the lobby and told the receptionist that there was a cockroach in the bathroom. Without apologizing, she asked for my room number. Then she quickly made a phone call (probably to the housekeeping). I did not wait for her to finish the phone call. When I got back to my room that night, the room was tidy but I did not see any notes that pest control was done. I had to call the receptionist to ask. The receptionist told me the pest control had come to the room. No apology.
The 3rd day morning my husband shouted from the bathroom that there was a cockroach. I could not believe it happened again at this 5-star luxury hotel. So I quickly gave my husband the camera and asked him to take the picture. Afterwards, we went to the breakfast and walked to the Observatory Tower. As shocked as we could be, we saw a rat on the way. Yes, a rat!! We had to take the picture!
I complained to the receptionist about the cockroaches and rat at the time we checked out. I had to show them the pictures because it seemed like they did not trust my words. They probably thought we wanted a free stay. I finally heard the apology but nothing showed me that the apology was real.
We could tolerate the cockroaches and rat in our sights, but we were definitely very disappointed with the unpleasant service on how they handle the incidents as a 5-star hotel. The service we received is definitely not a 5-star hotel service.
great hotel but not perfect
by TripAdvisor Member srej
This was our first trip to Bali. Two children (12,14) my wife and I on a family vacation. We spent 3 nights at the Nikko, 1 at the Melia Benoa in Nusa Dua and 6 at the Kajane in UBUD.
First off the Nikko is a beautiful hotel and we certainly enjoyed our stay. The kids loved the pool and swimming in the ocean waves (Ocean is very nice). The grounds are wonderful. We didn't really feel isolated since we took many cabs to Kuta ~8$, and Nusa Dua Galleria ~2$ for dinners and did a wonderful tour of Ulawatu temple and Dinner on the beach in Jimbaran. The breakfast buffet was great and we also enjoyed one lunch at the chinese restaurant.
To be fair I want to also mention a few issues. Pretty trivial but worth mentioning. It is almost impossible to get one room for a family of four. Our original booking was for 2 garden view rooms. When we arrived I explained that I wanted 1 ocean view room instead of 2 garden view rooms and that we could live with a king and one roll away. The only room they had to offer was a suite with an +300$/night extra charge. No thanks. So we took our 2 garden rooms and away we went. Turns out the rooms (although sequential) were not adjoining. Went back to the lobby and got two new rooms. When we got to those rooms one of them was not clean. It was late (after a 12 hour flight) and I was getting a little upset. Went back and asked for the manager. Explained everything from the start . He was apologetic and offered me the suite for $200. I said no (at this point I really just wanted to sleep) the price then went to 150$ and finally to $100/Night. I took it at 100$. I had just arrived and the haggling had already started ! Although in the end we got a beatufil room the whole ordeal was bothersome. I've staid at many 5 star hotels and I've never seen anything like this. Again I don't think this is a deal breaker and as we found out its just the way everything operates in Bali.
Finally let me point out one issue that did bug me. This also was done at every hotel we stayed at so its not a Nikko thing. When we booked our room we booked it in US dollars. When I checked out I received the bill in Rupiah with a not to favorable exchange rate. So I'm paying with a US credit card. I have a price in dollars, a bill in Rupiah with a premium exchange and then my credit card will convert the Rupiah back to Dollars. My head hurts ! Luckily I had paid most of the balance already through my travel agent but I did get stuck with ~$400 with the double exchange. I told them this was silly and they said I could pay in US dollars in cash. Again this happened to me at all 3 hotels I stayed at. The only one that agreed instantly to change my bill to US dollars was the Kajane in Ubud. Nice, but they shouldn't be pulling this stuff at these kind of hotels, it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
Let me end with a positive note: Hard to belive anyone would not enjoy a stay at the Nikko. Don't be afraid to get in a metered cab and go out to eat . Nusua Dua Galleria is 5 minutes and they have dozens of restaurants.
Good luck. If interested check out my review of Melia Benoa and Kajane in Ubud. I got a lot of great tips from Tripadvisor so I feel I owe a bit.

ok, but beach sux, go Hyatt Nusa Dua
by TripAdvisor Member BHinAUS
The hotel is nice, but a bit dated, and undergoing some work right now. The beach is not great, but the pool is quite fun for families. Some bizarre Japanese pool excercise sessions make for good comedy.
The service is great and so is the food. Could use a bigger menu by the pool. The staff works hard and do a good job.
We took a walk to some of the other Nusa Dua hotels, and the Hyatt is the best in the area, at least until the new ones are finished.
Overall, we had a good stay, but Nikko is not the best.
Nice Hotel but too detached from the Rest of Nusa Dua
by TripAdvisor Member Tommyboy-YVR
The Nikko Balki is a great hotel with amazing views, comfortable rooms, attentive staff and a great pool scene but is very far out from the rest of Nusa Dua and you feel disconnected from the Island.
My wife and I stayed here for a week in the end of June- early July and have mixed feelings on the Hotel. The place is very nice and cant be faulted for what it does provide but the property didnt work for us overall.
Nusa Dua is removedf rom the rest of the Island and the Nikko is the most remote of the Nusa Dua resorts. You can of couse hop a cab or shuttle to other areas but its not the most convenient spot.
The beach is a bit disappointing as well but the pool and grounds are truly amazing. Of the Hotels we saw in Nusa Dua though I would have to say the Grand Hyatt has a better mix and if I were to do it again I would give Nusa Dua a miss altogether and stay in Sanur at the Bali Hyatt.
Mixed Feelings

Hi all, I stayed at the Nikko in late June 2006. I booked through a travel agent, but was sold on the magnificent pool and grand looking hotel structure! The hotel design is AMAZING, the foyer entrance is on the top of the cliff and the view allows you to see right down the cliff to the hotel and around the peninsula.
I of course realised that Nusa Dua is away from Kuta, as I had wanted, but didn't realise it was about a 45 min car ride away! The Nikko is right at the end of the peninsula, which is great, but being a young couple, we didn't like the isolation so much.
However, I felt the hotel was a bit scary (I even said to my partner it reminded me of "The Shining") because it is so big, and felt quite empty most of the time. Maybe it was just the time I went, but still, I felt the heeby jeebies everytime the wind blowed and rattled the windows at night!
The breakfast is amazing though, with huge variety, but I just didn't enjoy the stay as much as I had expected. The spa was also great, but so expensive compared to other similar hotels in the area

wanting to travel with 2.5 year old March 2007
by andgab
In essence is it safe? Am I being foolish in wanting to take my 2.5 year old with me on a holiday to Bali?

Gosh no! Bali is wonderful & beautiful. I have travelled throughout Indonesia & have always felt safe.
The only thing with a littley is it is often suffocatingly hot! But hotels are airconned & very cheap compared to Western prices. The shopping is good particularly Aussie brands.
Be prepared for shopping in the markets, the 1st time I went it was shortly after the bombings & very few tourists then, the market traders were desperate & that was very disturbing. They are quite pushy - but be firm if you don't want anything.
You will have a fabulous time!

Bali is a paradise for all ages. I brought my 5 month old son and 2.5 yo daughter to Bali and had great time. Stayed in Nikko Bali in Nusa Dua ... where they have sandy pool for kids (swimming pool with man made sandy beach) by the beach so you can always go to the private beach few meters away as well. Hotel Melia Nusa Dua is also great for kids. Bring kids to Waterbom Park ... dont miss it. We stayed there swimming all day until it closed at 6 pm. It can be way too hot to walk around outside too long for kids if you plan to shop. Kuta is great for shopping. Hat and sun cream are a must. Bargain hard is a must. Many great places for sightseeing. You will have a fantastic time.

If you think your crazy, we are traveling around the world for over 2 years with a little one that age now. We are currently in Bali, and it is amazing. The people are so friendly you can hardly believe it. You will be just fine here.
