can people help, are anti malerial tablets needed for bali, as i have been given conflicting advise (and my drs are not that helpful either when i ask them)

No one advised me to take precautions for malaria when I went to Bali. I know heaps of people who've visited Bali. Malaria is never been an issue.

Hi it depends on where you are planning on staying. Malaria hasnot been an issue on Bali before, however there have been some small localised outbreaks reported this year, mostly in central Bali, around Ubud and its outlying areas. It should be stressed however that they are small isolated cases, and aslong as you take the necessary precautions, then you should be ok. Asfor taking the tablets, some people take them to be sure, and have no ill effects, others have some side effects from the pills, so I suppose it's up to you.
Make sure that you spray your roomj on a night time 1/2 hour before you sleep.with an anti mosquito spray. (you can readilly buy the cans over here.)
Put on plenty of mosquito repellant if you venture into the centre of Bali, especially if you visit the Elephant & Bat Temple Caves, there are alot of Mosquito's around there.
The south of Bali, especially coastal spots, are clear of any reported outbreaks.
Don't worry about the over exagerated reports about Malaria or Dengue fever here on Bali., the precautions are the same, Dengue fever is no more widespread in Bali than previous years, andthe malaria is still only small.

No we have been to Bali 10 times and I have never heard of anyone taking malaria tablets.

In 1985 when we first went over they made you take them... However these tablets only cover a few of the strains of Malaria. We have been going over often and never taken them. I think if you are going to go off the beaten track they are required but not in Bali. Spray your room and take some rub on or spray on and you should be OK.

My doctor advised me not to take them unless I absolutely had to. I would not even bother if you are only going to Bali,however the choice is always yours. Have fun!!
