We were there in September 2008 and the beach front reclamation was in full swing and even that didn't dampen the atmosphere. We did upgrade to a suite for a nominal increase and it was well worth it for the extra room. The buffet breakfast offered the usual spread of choices and it was not exceptional , just acceptable. For example, there were no real juices available, just fruit drink/cordial type juice. I wasn't impressed with the wednesday night satay buffet either as the food was kept warm for far too long and was not particularly nice.
Service around the pool was very good and the cocktails were a fair price. I loved that you could catch a bluebird taxi out the front and be in the thick of the shopping and restaurants in no time at all for about $A2. It was also possible to walk along the beacjh at night and stop at one of the beachside restaurants.
The three fabulous pools were very well maintained. I would also add that the staff were very friendly and happy to assist with any difficulties.
