More about Bali
I'm looking for help regarding the best area/hotel for our stay in Bali in September, I am looking at the Legian Beach Hotel and various booking agents/ websites give distrance from Kutu different ie some say 2 mins walk other 3 km!! We enjoy the nightlife but do like a hotel away from noise:-) we dont mind a short walk into the nightlife but not a 30min yomp. If anyone can advise if this hotel is ideally situation and/or other hotels in the area. I have read lots of positive feed back on various forums re Bali and its sounds wonderful, this is our first visit to Bali and are truelly looking forward to it, it has always been on my 'to visit' list.
Thanks in advance
RE: Good hotels
Went to Bali in Dec 2005 and stayed at the Dewi Sri Hotel. The rate was USD25/room/night with double bed and ABF for 2. The internet rate when I booked was USD30/room/night. I emailed them to bargain for cheaper rates.
The hotel is located on the lane (about 200m in) between the former Paddy's Bar (which was bombed) and the Memorial.
It is rather convenient as it is just a short stroll to Jalan Legian where you'll be in the middle of everything. To get to Kuta Beach itself, you'd need another 15 minutes walk across the lane diagonal to the hotel lane where you'll pass by its sister hotel The Barong on your left.
Check out the website at http://www.dewisrihotel.com/
Have a nice trip.
RE: Good hotels
Bali is a wonderful holiday destination. I am pretty sure the Legian Beach is a walk from the beach but is also pretty close to legian rd were all the shopping, bars & restaurants are located. It also depends on where they refer to as Kuta if they mean the Kuta art markets yes it would be at leat 3 kms away. It is very easy to walk all the way down Legian Rd then taxi home for a few $$ using Blue taxis all metered but always check when you get in like anywhere there is always an unscrupulous driver preying on new visitors. Alternately you can walk down the beach to the Kuta art market then walk back along Legian Rd. Sunday on Kuta beach is great all the local families spend the afternoon and early evening swimming kicking the ball generally having a good time. There is a shopping centre called Centro down in Tuban any taxi driver will get you there it is also where Waterbom Park is situated. Depending on your fitness level and the heat it is possible to walk all the way down there is no need to go further than Centro as it is mostly just big hotels. Hope this is helpful to you.
RE: Good hotels
Legian and Kuta are right next to each other. I wouldn't worry to much about the walk because like the posting ahead said a few $$ can get you anywhere between Kuta and Legian. Laegian also as some good clubs as well, like Double Six. I found myself starting in Kuta around the MBarGo club and when things closed down there at 2am i'd catch a taie for $2 to Double Six and stay there till it closed at 6am (open from 6 to 6). No matter where you walk from none of it is bad because there are so many shops and things to see on the way that time flys. I satyed at the Wida Hotel (just type it in google)in on the boder of Kuta and Legian. It was a 5 minute walk to most clubs and 10 minute walk to Legain for sites. Any other questions hit me back. I was there last Sept for about 2 weeks and had a blast.
