Accommodation at Rancabuaya beach

We found the best place to stay over at Rancabuaya the newly built "villa's" on the hill overlooking the beach. The place has no name (yet), but seems to be owned by Puri Pangalengan Hotel and Restaurant. Only three neat villa's are available at Rp 200,000 a night.
If these are occupied, you might consider the villa's on the patch of land below the hill nearer to the beach, going at Rp 150,000, or Villa Zea farther from the coast.
Rancabuaya village itself has a number of rather pathetic losmen. Among these Penginapan Jaya Sakti stands out as better built and clean. Rooms here cost Rp 125,000.

ANB Resort and Hotel: New in Pameungpeuk

On a recent - October 2008 - trip to West-Java's south coast we were pleasantly surprised to find a new hotel in Pameungpeuk, much better than the losmen that were the only accommodation available so far. If you do not fancy a dark damp room and squatting toilet, you can now still choose Pameungpeuk as a base to discover the south coast.

The hotel offers a range of rooms with very competative prices. The best, very spacious, rooms go for Rp 450,000 including breakfast. Smaller, but still comfortable and airconditioned rooms cost Rp 250,000. Apart from the main building are a few attractive double wooden cabins. One with AC accommodating four is priced at Rp 450,000, another similar one for two guests at Rp 250,000. Cabins without AC go for Rp 150,000. And when you are on a very tight budget, there is a separate wing "for salespeople" with rooms for Rp 100,000 much better than the higher priced losmen.

On appointment the hotel can arrange rafting adventures, e.g. on Ci Kandang river.

The main hotel building is arranged around a large swimming pool, all the rooms are on the second floor.

Puri APL: The only losmen near Sindangkerta turtle beach

There is little choice if you need to stay over near Cipatujah, 50 km east of Pameungpeuk. There is just the losmen Puri APL at Sindangkerta beach, about as good as you can get for Rp 50,000 a room. Call pak Tarlipin for reservation: HP 081546914777.
The restaurant may look nice, but the kitchen is bad. You have to order a day in advance anyhow, so better bring your own food. Or walk over to the recreational beach: the nasi goreng at the most easterly warung was not bad at all.

Pondok Karang Asri: Losmen near Pameungpeuk

There used to be only basic accommodation near Pameungpeuk, mainly concentrated at Mancagahar west of town.
Perhaps the best and cleanest of these losmen is Pondok Karang Asri. They have three rooms with AC priced at Rp 180,000, as well as cheaper rooms. They do not provide breakfast or drinks, and only one towel per room. On the other side of the road is restaurant Sari Asri of the same owner, serving a huge grilled fish for Rp 70,000.
However you look at it, new ABN Hotel closer to Pameungpeuk centre is a much better bet.
