Lombok

Kuta, Lombok is famous for the incredibly beautiful beach. When the tide is low the bay turn into shallow water pool and the color of the water turns into turquoise. You can see the photo of the beach at the many internet cafes in Indonesia. Look for the wall paper on the computer screen. S coast of Lombok is also famous for the high waves. Also Kuta is a good base for the surfers.
How to get here by public transport from Mataram.
Take a bemo from the bus terminal to Praya 2000Rp/p
From Praya, take 2 bemos to Kuta, 1500Rp each.
This transport arrives at the intersection where you can see a Cafe on the right. If you turn right from here, you can find a few hotels including Matahari Hotel and continuing to another beautiful half moon crescent bay, 6km from Kuta. If you go straight you can reach W side of Kuta beach where you can find many GHs and restaurants. If you turn left, the road contines behind Kuta beach where also many GHs and some other tourist facilities.
Your transport to Kuta probably takes you the hotel you want to stay. So tell the name to the driver.
Diving in Lombok-The dream come true! Day 2
by canicus
Day 2
Beautiful morning as we made our way back to the Dive Base at Sheraton. It was open water time!
The first dive was done from a outrigger at Nipah Reef at Lombok. Visibility was reasonable at abt 20M but the water had a lot of floating sediment due to the runoff from the previous day’s rain.
Flora and Fauna were in abundance; the beauty and colors of the reef both astonished and awed me.
Popped back to the Sheraton after the 1st dive and proceeded to have lunch. Traveller’s Tip: The are two types of time in Lombok, our time and Lombok time. Lombok is a really laid back kinda town so do not expect your orders to come quickly as you would other places. Nothing is prepared beforehand and food is cooked when you make your order.
Got our second dive in at the Senggigi Home Reef, was not really impressed as the currents here were very strong and the waters were extremely choppy. I was fine (besides swallowing mouthfuls of salt water) but the others were starting to feel a bit nauseous from bobbing in the water.
Visibility this time was abt 10m but the reef was nice. Kept getting pulled out by a current when we were in the water. My cousin Derwin also gave me a spot of training by accidentally knocking off both my goggles and regulator. ;-)
Completed the dive and was back in the Dive Base till about 5.30pm.
Okay.....there's actually more but my PC crashed and I lost the username and password.
finally figured it out after looking thru my old emails. hehehehe
Will be updating this soon!
Cheers!
Ferry

Ferry are easy and cheap way to access to Lombok. Approximately ferry ride take between 5-6hrs depends on the weather. Be ready that the ferry carry vehicle aswell so the departure will be not on time or delay depends on the passenger accurancy in the ferry. Ferries travel between Padangbai in Bali, and to Lembar harbour in Lombok about every two hrs Be alert that touts selling everyhing are rather irritating than convenient!!.Just put a warm smile and simple say 'No Thanks'. if you doesnt want to buy any of the stuff. This ferry is not express cruises and the journey are very slow ride Its very warm inside the seat row..!!

This small touristic town is the most developed area for tourists, it´s a pleasant village with a wide option of accomodation, from five star hotels like the Oberoi to small hostels. The town is located along the coastal road that continues to Bangsal, the main port if you want to visit the Gili islands.
