National Flag of the Republic of Indonesia
by xuessium
The Indonesian national flag is called "Sang Saka Merah Putih. "Merah Putih" simply means Red-White. The official name however is Sang Saka, that is "Lofty Bicolor". Red represents the human blood, standing for the corporeal or concrete, white represents the spiritual. Together they are a pair, like the life on earth: day and night; man and wife; creation and individual.

Meet biawak lizards
by theo1006
Taking a quiet byroad or walking a dirt path we met these lizards, which seem to be common on Lombok. They are called biawak in Indonesian. Perhaps distant relatives of the lizards we saw in Australia.
They were not difficult to photogaph, only leasurely walking away when we came too close.
Something slightly more opulent
by xuessium about Taman Senggigi Restaurant
This was the new kid on the block then in 2001.
The curved shape of this always crowded restaurant lets you see and be seen. There is something for everyone and the service is very friendly and helpful. Reputed to be popular with tours.
Very close to Senggigi Square Complex - you could see Club Tropicana if you are eating on the second floor, which was where I sat.
Lunched here on my last afternoon in Lombok before flying back home. Just wanted a great meal. It was alright - me & my mate had lndonesian dishes for a reasonable price.
Mount Rinjani Trekking
by Adietya
There over 20 villages surround Mt. Rinjani and there are many routes up the mountain,
but the main access is from Senaru in the north and Sembalun Lawang to the east. The challenging three-day Rinjani Trek route from Senaru to the crater rim (Plawangan), down to the stunning crater lake then on to Sembalun Lawang, is considered one of the best treks in South East Asia. Those heading for the summit usually prefer to start in Sembalun Lawang.
A model for Eco tourism in Indonesia, the community-based activities are focused on the Rinjani Trek Center in Senaru, the most popular starting point for the tough trek. Developed with New Zealand Government assistance since 1999, the Rinjani Trek Center embodies under one roof (satu atap) the unique partnership of the National Park, tourism industry and local communities that has been forged to manage and protect the Rinjani mountain environment.
