5 days 4 nights at Yogyakarta

by kentapril77

Hi all! good day to you!

My friend and I are going to Yogyakarta on 30 April 2010. At the moment, we had some ideas about places to visit at Yogyakarta, such as:

1. borobudur - sunrise tour
2. Prambanam
3. Parangtritis
4. Jl. Malioboro
5. Kraton

That's all we know about Yogya.

I would appreciate if anyone of you could give me some hints about other nice place(s) to visit during my stay in Yogya.

oh ya! not forgetting about food in Yogya. we are food lover! is there any recommendation about nice food in Yogya? be it hot and spicy; sweet or sour, basically, we eat it all!

i truly appreciate if anyone of you could provide me some info??

thanks pal!

Hi,

In Prambanan there is more to do than just a visit to the famous Hindu temples, see my Prambanan page:

And if you like caves and volcanoes, see these tips:

Yogya's food specialty is "gudeg", you shouldn't miss it.

Travel Tips for Yogyakarta

Wayang

by black_mimi99

Wayang kulit, shadow puppets prevalent in Java and Bali in Indonesia, are without a doubt the best known of the Indonesian wayang. Kulit means skin, and refers to the leather construction of the puppets that are carefully chiseled with very fine tools and supported with carefully shaped buffalo horn handles and control rods.

Wayang show has been recognized by UNESCO on 7 November 2003 as amazing cultural work in Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

fruits (standout: mangosteen)

by Rastarigo

one thing i enjoyed most while in jogja is making quick frequent trips to fruit stand along malioboro. they got cheap quality fruits like round and plump atis (sugar apple), the scary snake-skinned salak (snake fruit), the fine and delicate manggis (mangosteen), etc. mangosteen should only cost you 4,000 to 6,000 rupiah a kilo. when they know you are a foreigner they could rocket the price to 12,000. mangosteen is real dirt-cheap in jogja that's why every hour of the day, i appear before the stand and order a kilo, skip lunch because i literally pig out on these dainty succulent soft white flesh every god-given hour after breakfast.

Get ready for extra ‘oleh-oleh’

by Goldenboy

Once we visit their home, they will invite you to eat abundantly, even if it is a spontaneous visit. More over, (specially for not every day’s guest) when we’re leaving, they will ask you still to bring some foods or whatever as an ‘oleh-oleh’ (souvenirs or present), which is sometimes feels too much. And sometimes it is feels a little bit forcing. Hey, they are satisfied to treat their honored guess anyway.

Where River Meet The Ocean

by imran8852

Baron Beach Is Actually Near A Cove Where There Is A Mouth Of Underground River, The Water From This River Flow To Meets The Ocean (When You Taste The Water You Will Notice That One Is Salty And The Other One Not) Which Can Be Use For Bathing Or Cleaning Your Body After Swimming In The Sea. You Will Be Passing Through Spectacular Panoramic View On Your Journey To Baron Beach Which Is 60km South-East Of Yogya .
