A day trip to Jogya from SOLO

by yuenling

I will be attending my friend's wedding dinner in SOLO and planning for a day trip to Jogya after the wedding dinner. I wish to cover several famous areas in Jogya like Borobudur, Prambaran, twin temple, Keraton and Jogya city. At night, I will need to travel back to SOLO as I will stay in SOLO hotel. What will be the best transportation for my itinerary? Is there any taxi driver i can rent for whole day? and roughly how much they will charge for it?

It is a seventy km trip, may take up to 1.5 hours in that populated area of Central Java. Taxi drivers will be happy to take you on a long distance trip, but be warned that driving at night is not as safe as in western countries (potholes, people walking along the street sides, many road portions without white marks on the ground, etc. . . . ). Be sure to have an experienced driver.
Not sure about the price, but definitely less than 50 US$ (500.000 rupiah).

Best alternative transport for you itinerary:
you can rent car for whole day (normally 12 hours ) as it's more flexible. There are many transport companies offering car rental in Yogyakarta.Normally APV Car will charge 60 us dollar (Rp 600.000,-) included gasoline and driver. In Yogyakarta, I have a friend running transport company, his name is Mr Ping M,work for company providing car rental ( Swabuana ), he can speak English well and used to take traveler to visit Kraton, Prambanan and Borobudur.More detail: Adress Swabuana Karangbendo Gang Mawar no 1 Yogyakarta 55198, Contact Person; +622742109110 (Ping M).That all, have nice trip, and hope this reply useful/helpful for you.

Travel Tips for Yogyakarta

Laundry

by aliciawsp

For a cheap, good place to get your laundry done, go to Salsa Laundry along Gang II, off Jln. Sosrowijayan. It's charged by the kilogram and at the time of this tip, it was Rp. 3,500/kg. Great service - clean clothes, fast collection time and friendly smiles all around. He even ironed our socks!

Student

by rite_of_spring

If you are a student, don't forget to show your student card as there's 40% discount for the entrance fee for the Borobudur and Prambanan, i.e. USD6 instead of USD10, same thing applies if you intend to visit Ratu Boko Heritage Site.

Standing in polite

by Goldenboy

As for male, it is consider as politeness to stand with both hands positioned in front part of your body, with left hand under right hand. So people will see your right hand’s back. It is not really important whether right or left though. But sure, it is recommended when we deal with older people. Don’t think it is to cover your ‘treasure’ (guys don’t laugh!) It is pure for politeness purpose, as a sign of submissiveness, I guess.

Visit the temples of Borobodur

by dunearn20

As described in my main page for Yogyakarta, this temple is a must!
About one hour by car, you should go for sunrise.
Entrance Fee: US$ 10,- . Minibus ordered through the hotel: ca. US$ 25,- per car, no matter how many passengers, for 4 hours.

Batic

by xaver about Mirota Batik

Once in Yogya, loads of people will offer you to visit ther Batic industry, the best place to buy Batic and many other local crafts is sure the Mirota Batik shop.
They also accept credit card and do not ask for commissions. Cannot bargain there, it's full of locals, watch what they do and imitate:))
