Yogyakarta Palace/ Keraton Yogyakarta.
Presidential Palace of Yogyakarta, better known as the Great House is a historic building built in 1825. The building is located on the land area of 4.2 hectares, located opposite the former East India Company fort on the edge of Fort Vredeburg General Ahmad Yani street. I miss the unique of Yogyakarta Palace, the culture and many things surround it..
Entering the main gate, you'll be greeted by a giant statue guards "Dwarapala", and many other statue than make me amaze... This palace consisted of several large rooms, and every room, made in a beautiful way... i just can dreaming that i princess of this palace....
Travel Agent in Jogja
by mansionion
Its better if you visit the Borobodur and Prambanan temples by joining a tour from Jogja. Most of the travel agents are located at Jalan Sostrowijayan, Jogja's backpackers place. I used Cakra Travel of Jalan Sostrowijayan for my trip to Borobodur & Prambanan and highly recommend it.
A full package for morning tour with the travel agent (transfer + entrance fee + breakfast) cost Rp200,000/pax (if I remember correctly) but I paid for Rp70,000 just for the transfer + set breakfast (at an eateries in Borobodur's compound). Since I look like a typical Asian man, the guide was kind enough to direct me to use the local's entrace gate instead of the international entrace to the temples complex - so I paid local rate of Rp9,000 instead of USD11 ;) Paying local rate to visit the temples complex :)

Also you have to go to Prambanan Temple in the way to Solo, it is the biggest and most beautifull Hindu temple in Indonesia. Solo is an other cultural town with two very interesting Markets. It is 1 h. from Yogya by train, you can go and return the same day.
pasar Beringharjo: market
by kilat
Close to the Keraton (Palace of the Sultan), around the arcade of Jalan Malioboro, is a market, called "pasar Beringhardjo". Official it closes at 17.00 o'clock, but after that time you can buy Indonesian food.
I was to tired to look around very long, so I only saw a little part. But I read you can find a lot of traditional products at that market, and it is not touristic.
West part and north part: batik (10.000 Rp.-1.000.000 Rp.),
West part: traditional batik clothes, sandals and bags,
Front and back part: traditional snacks,
Front east part, second floor: herbs,
North part: "Kampung Pecinan" (Chinese area): music from the 50th, old coins.
Magical House Guardian
by bpacker
Truth be told, Yogya is the only city in republican Indonesia still ruled by royalty and it is still steeped in beliefs in the occult, mediums and magic. Every inn/house and even the palace has a god at the front door which acts as a guardian spirit .
