Regarding tours to sites

by stamporama

I'll be in town in about 2 weeks and I plan to see Prambanan in the afternoon (when I arrive from Jakarta) then early in the morning, Borobudur. I would also be interested to watch the Ramayana if there is one scheduled. I just have a few queries:

1) Which is the better option: get an arranged tour from my hotel (or its tours desk), or just get a cab to bring me to those places?

2) How much is the current, average cost for each option?

3) If I take a cab to either site and let him go after I get off, will it be just as easy to hail one for the return to Yogya? Or should I hold on to my taxi for the return trip?

Thanks for any replies.

Hi,
if you interested, you can go to Prambanan with Trans Jogja, bus that run in circuit route. Trans Jogja number 1 go to Prambanan and Adi Sucipto.
They operate until late hour. So, if you dont get any taxi in Prambanan, and see the Trans Jogja bus still operate, just hop on to the bus to go back to the city.
Enjoy your trip!

Travel Tips for Yogyakarta

Central Javanese City

by Weny

The palace of the Sultan and the Water Castle. The palace has a complete Gamelan orchestra. The sounds of the food carts at night. Each food cart has a different sound. Some have whistles, some play bird calls, others have bells. It's a great place to relax. You can hangout with students on Jalan Malboro. Just stretch out on the straw mats that cover the street and have snack and listen to music and conversation.

Indonesian pigeons...

by belgianchocolate

Playing with pigeons is 'IN' now. You see them everywhere in the streets.
Of course they are sold on the birdmarket.

Indonesian pigeons are dropped less then 5 kilometers from home to find their way back...
I stunned them by telling the Belgian ones where brought to Barcelona to fly home..
(and how much the winner made for his boss)

Anyway...it's nice to make a talk and have a look around.

The old man in the picture is selling whistles....
They attach them on the tail of the pigeon..
Very colorful and a nice gift , no?

(you can find the bird market near taman sari)

bowling/bilyard

by autaze

The best place to spend a night with your friends with bowling or bilyard is in a pool in pingit. Sorry, i forget its name. I just remember it has big place, perhaps the biggest in jogja. bring nothing. you will find everything that you need there, including drinks & snacks. but, the toilet ... is horrible.

Prambanan !

by belgianchocolate

They started to build these beauties 900 a.c.
17 km away from Jogya these temples are also
not to be missed.

How we got there?
We had a becak to the busstation 'Terban'.
There one of the local minibusses was waiting
for us. The leave every 15 minutes...
and bring you for no money 500 meters near the
entrance of the temple gardens.

Quit adventurous these busses.
The airco came from under the bus.
Hmmm , parts of the floor were missing.

You can easily combine Borobudur and Prambanan with a tour operator. And the price isn't even that much different then when
you only visit one of them.

Guided tours are available , 40 000ir , and quit interesting.
Your visit will have a lot more meaning.
Make sure you have an official one!
Order one at the front desk. :-)

(entrance fee januari 2004 - 10 dollar)

Solo to Jogja

by eugenetan

If you travel like me on Air Asia from KL to Solo, you can get to Balapan train station by taxi from airport (IDR50k) for teh 11.30am train (IDR7k) which takes only 1 hour (train name Prameks). There are 7 daily departures. Else, try a minivan pickup from your hotel for about IDR30k.
