Inuyama Castle, about an hour north of Nagoya
by cvilla007
It's a bit of a trek north of Nagoya, but Inuyuma Castle is worth seeing. The castle has the oldest original tower, built in the 1500's. It's quite small, but it's really interesting inside. You get the feel of being in a real castle, not just a tourist trap. There are breathtaking views of the mountains, the river, and Inuyama from the tower. The surrounding grounds are also quite peaceful. It costs about 500 yen to enter.

I was curious about this pavilion, it was another very small one......They had lots of pictures on display ...
......The theme was "Bridge as a Gift of Nature," the pavilion proposes interaction between man and nature by use of natural building materials. In modern society with highly developed technologies, especially in communication.....
The only craft items are the one in the picture, not sure if it was for sale...There were no lines .....I wanted to see the Croatia pavillion but that had a very long line...:(.

Nagoya is a nice place to live. The subway system is very convenient and safe. The fare is not so expensive and the downtown area is bicycle friendly. Sakae and Osukanon are the two most popular areas for shopping. In Sakae, there are lots of things to buy ranging from electronics equipment, clothes, and novelty items. There are lots of restaurants and bars for foreigners. HardRock coffee is a nice place to hang around. They play cool music and nice music videos. On the other hand, if you really like electronic gadgets such as computers and cameras, Osukannon is your place. If you know how to ask for the right price, you can have a very good bargain as high as 20-30% discount.
Nagoya Port Aquarium and Higashiyama Park are nice areas to spend your weekend. Each of this area requires almost one day to explore. Be sure to bring your camera if you like animals to be your subjects of photography....
