Travel Tips for Nagoya

JR Station Nagoya

by PartyRambo

This main rail/subway station with its twin towers above, was built in 2000.
Below the 2 towers sits the 'spike' as I call it - a sculpture in steel which simply reminds me of a Hershey's Kiss chocolate wrapper. http://www.mirai.ne.jp/~eurocity/english/enews.html is a personal webpage with a brief photo essay on the history of the construction of the complex.

Nagoya Castle Torreya Nut Tree

by PartyRambo

While in Japan, I was employed by a tree-pruning company, so there was some interest in the ancient trees I came across.
This Nut Tree is over 600 years old (well before the castle was built), 50' tall & has a circumference of about 25'.
It was damaged during the air raids of WWII, but survived, although for its own safety, it has braces all over it, which detract from its natural beauty.
It's the ONLY government-designated national monument in Nagoya.

"The Region where I was born, anyway..."

Nagoya is one of the biggest cities in Japan, less tiring than Tokyo, though.
Quite similar to other metropolitan cities... Not really a tourist place.

The castle in the pic is located 40 km away from Nagoya.

I was born in a middle-size town near Nagoya.
I think Nagoya is a confortable place to live, though.
