Nearest Town after crossing the Aqualine
"Aqualine, linking two very different cities"
The Aqualine expressway is over 10km in length is both a tunnel under Tokyo Bay, and a bridgeway rising up mid-way in journey. It links this town Kisarazu and Kawasaki .
This photo is a simple illustration of the contruction technique of Aqualine, and was photographed at the "Umihotaru" scenic rest area with observation deck, shopping and eating (but no petrol refuel stand).
"Where is Kisarazu?"
Located at the yellow round dot at the lower right of the illustration where the other yellow-labelled locales are Tokyo near the top of illustration and Yokohama to the lower leftish. The journey via Aqualine takes about 20 mins. from Kawasaki Station and buses run generally once every half-hour.
"Farm and Ocean in Kisarazu, Chiba"
Though it was expected this would change due to the 1997 introduction of the Aqualine tunnel link, this is town is still idyllic, natural and sleepy, with both farming and fishing economy, and still a 180-degree difference compared with urban and industrial Kawasaki. It is strange that these two cities are linked, as travelling through this tunnel feels somewhat like going through a time warp suddenly ending up in another place far away.
