Greatest shoreline view
by WaRPer about JAL Resort Sea Hawk Hotel
For those who cares for upper-class modern-world hotel, I really recommend this one. It maybe a little distance from downtown, the nearest Subway Station (Tojinmachi) is around 15 minutes walk away. But if you don't mind using the public bus, the bus stop is at your doorstep. The most impressive thing about this hotel is that you can see the endless shoreline right from your window. Peaceful surroundings, just 10 minutes from the famous 1st-stop Fukuoka Tower along the seaside Momochi. Fukuoka Yahoo! Dome, home of Fukuoka's Sofbank Hawks baseball team.
Hawks Town Mall, Hard Rock Cafe and many more
The hotel itself has more than 10 choices of restaurants, Japanese Bath, Swimming Pool, Wide-screen TV + LAN for laptops, room-service massage,...

JAL is the National Carrier, ANA - All Nipon Air is alternative, and every major carrier has their flights on these very busy routes in and out of Japan......== Thai and Cathay provide a superb service to & from Japan with airways plastcy (?) foods, an intro - truly not that bad ;-)
Days of Royal Interocaean Liner, tramps steamers are still around, but worthy of seeking out,

I flew with Ansett Australia...
by Beachcomber
I flew with Ansett Australia from Brisbane to Kansai International (Osaka). The were very kind and went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Unfortunetly this Airline has collapsed yet again as the deal to re-start the airline fell through 48 hours before the deadline. This is a true tragedy to see a great airline and staff end.
I can only reccomend ANA - ALL Nippon Airways (my japanese friends call it anna). They code shared with Ansett and were handlers in Osaka. I got to use the Club ANA lounge (business class lounge) and the service from the staff was very warm and kind. In Economy ANA has more leg room than JAL (Japan Airlines). ANA is the largest Airline in Asia. My Japanese friend says that she prefers JAL. Probably their both good. It's just a real shame that Ansett doesn't fly there anymore or anywhere. I'm sure that many people would aggree with me that Ansett was the best airline in the world.
The Shinkansen (Bullet Train)connects various points in Japan. There are services almost all the time adn it travels up to 300km/h. The shinkansen travels on a dedicated elevated dual track which is free from Level crossings, so as to cut down on travelling time.
It takes about 2 hours and a half to travel from Tokyo to Osaka. The shinkansen is unbelievably quite and smooth. While travelling at 300km/h you can virtually not hear anything and it will feel like you are not moving at all or very slowly.

Kyoto trip need help
by coolpizza
Hi there,
I am going to Kyoto, Japan at the end of this October for a one-week conference from JFK , and need to go back China to obtain a re-entry visa for US. I am looking for cheap airfare for this multi-stop trip and found this great site with a lot of helpful information. As far as now, the best I can get will be flying via JAL with the following itinerary for $962 including tax/fee through a local travel agent.
Oct.26 JFK-NRT
Nov.2 NRT-PVG (Shanghai)
Nov.20 PVG-NRT
Nov.20 NRT-JFK
The better choice will be flying to KIX, though the air fare will be about $200-$300 more and my local agent can only get the HND-KIX not the NRT-ITM. Another concern is the time issue for traveling from NRT to HND to catch the plane, it seems HND-KIX is not recommended. Plus I have two big luggage with me which will be a big problem. So currently I have some plans:
1) But this $962 ticket through the agent and call JAL to purchase the $200 two sector oneworld Yokoso/Visit Japan Fare for NRT-ITM. Is this option feasible? Or I have to buy the whole ticket through JAL directly?
http://www.jal.co.jp/yokosojapan/
2) Buy the 7-day JR Pass in advance in US and take the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto, and spend $100 for the baggage storage at NRT airport. The only concern is about the Japan visa, I heard the application for temp visitor visa is a whole of trouble for people holding China passport in US without US re-entry visa stamp. So I am going to apply for the 15-day transit visa, will that account for "sight seeing" as well? I am little bit confused by the wording here:

Any advice about this trip will be appreciated, thanks a lot for reading!
Re: Kyoto trip need help

JR rail pass entitles you to travel on ShinKansen and the JR trains within the city. Make sure you obtain the right one that lets you travel between Kyoto and Tokyo. It's meant for anyone foreigner who's there on a tourist visa. Actually, they only see your JR pass and don't even ask for the passport.
