Magomechaya: Japanese Inn

We arrived in pouring rain (22 of us)and were shown into our rooms, which were clean, comfortable and spacious with views of Magome and the surrounding hills.

We were able to relax and unwind in the large room set aside for guests which also had a computer with free internet access.
Meals were provided over the road (footpath really) in the restaurant run by the inn.

Magome is a lovely "preserved" post town linked, via a 7.5 kilometre old pathway (relatively easy grade) through forests, tiny hamlets, following beside streams and waterfalls, with Tsumago on the old Nakasendo. Some of us walked the further 3 or 4 kilometres from Tsumago to Nagiso Railway Station. For those who find walking difficult, there is a bus service from Magome to Nagiso (650yen) and it continues on to Nagiso Station (300yen) from Tsumago.

To add to our goodwill, we were lucky with the weather. The rain stopped during the night and the walk was undertaken in sunshine. The cool forest pathways were indeed very welcome.

Very clean and spacious rooms, enough toilets to accommodate a large group of people, the usual Japanese-style bathrooms, a laundry, a kitchen for use by guests. Free internet access was a bonus.

The food (breakfast and dinner) was included in the tariff, and was delicious and generous.
