When about to plan this year's trip to Japan I found that a lot of accomodation couldnt be booked through websites as HI Hostels (Int hostel page), Hostels.com etc... When trying to book a room or dorm I got the message saying "This hostel doesnt currently accept online bookings". And since I like to plan everything in detail before I go I started the hunt for email addresses to Japanese hostels & other cheap accomodation..
The great thing with making the booking directly with the place you going to stay at is that you dont have to pay the deposits and booking fees that many websites charge.
