Suggestions for a ryokan or minshuku in Takayama and Kananzawa?
Planning on visiting both Takayama and Kananzawa and was hoping that somebody could recommend a good ryokan or minshuku. Would like to have a Japanese room and use an onsen. Would like to have meals there as well to have the full experience. Thanks in advance for the help!

In Kanazawa I recommend that you go up the coast to Wajima, a very charming little town with several charming ryokan and minshukan. I will try to find the name of the ryokan where I stayed. No onsen but a nice bath. Excellent food. Can you speak a little Japanese?

Aside from wajima the Noto peninsula has a very beautiful coast.

Thanks for the links. I'm trying to find an affordable yet nice place. So far the nice places aren't "nicely" affordable. :) I don't speak or read Japanese so I'm having trouble finding a place that at least has a map with discernable (in English) directions.

We stayed in Houshoukaku Ryokan in Takayama, quite by chance. We had booked it a day earlier at one of the travel agents at a train station elsewhere. While we did not stay at any other ryokan and so cannot really compare, I would have to estimate that this place was the bona fide experience. It was very unique for us. They did not speak one single word of English there, and of course we spoke maybe one word of Japanese, so it was quite time consuming checking in as they tried to explain everything to us. But they were very friendly and tried very hard, and we really enjoyed the experience. The meals were excellent as well.
They have the regular single-sex onsen, but also two or three small private "family onsen" you can book (for a reasonable fee). You tried the one on the rooftop under the stars. Very pleasant in the hot water and cold air.
