GIFU is a city only 15 mins away from Nagoya by shinkansen while the Gifu Prefecture (central Honshu) is located north of Aichi & southwest of Nagano. It was once known as Mino & Hida.

Alternatively, for something more unique, treat yourself to an evening of Ukai - a traditional method (dating back to 1300 years ago) of catching fish by well-trained cormorant birds.
