Fukuyama - Castle Town
"Fond Memories"
I lived in Fukuyama for 9 months. It was a great time teaching at Henry Eikaiwa Gakuin.
Did any of you VTers attend the school? The school was next to the Grand Hotel. That is behind the castle which faces Fukuyama eki.
I taught there in 1976 and when I returned there were preperations being made for an underground mall on Ekimae Dori. Perhaps someone could tell me how the city center looks now.
At night the teachers would sometimes go up to the green line to play kick the can. Somedays were spent at Tomonoura fishing.
It was a wonderful place full of warm friendly people. Typical of Japan we worked and played hard.
It was here that I earned my Sho Dan in Kendo.
Many wonderful memories, I hope to revisit some day.
