Understanding Peace Park Monuments
by Rabbityama
Most tourists who come to Hiroshima go to the A-bomb Memorial Museum and Peace Park. When you walk through Peace Park, you will obviously see many monuments scattered about. If you truly want to get the most out of your experience in Hiroshima, then I suggest you make sure to bring a book that explains each monument. If you do not have a book when you go to Hiroshima, it's not a problem! Before you look around Peace Park, tour the musuem. Inside the museum there is an area where you can purchase souvenirs. At this gift shop/souvenir area, you will find books about Hiroshima and Peace Park. The Hiroshima Peace Reader (in the picture) contains a map of Peace Park with each monument marked on the map. It also provides an explanation of each monument. Aside from this, it provides historical information and information about creating the park! It's a must for those who truly want to understand Peace Park!
Miyajima Ferry
by pure1942
Getting to Miyajima couldn’t be easier. You first take the tram to the Miyajima-guchi station – red line on the tram map. The station is the last stop on the line...20 stops from Hiroshima station and 10 stops from the A-Bomb Dome stop. The fare to Miyajima-guchi is more than the normal fare at ¥250.
Once you reach the station cross over to the harbour and get a ticket for the Miyajima ferry. There are two companies operating the route to the island. If you have the JR pass, the JR ferry ride is free. Because I had the pass I don’t know how much the ferry actually is...sorry
Monuments in Peace Park
by Travel2write
This monument houses a chest that contains a register of the names of the atomic bomb victims. Every August 5th, the list is updated to include those who have died during the last year from atomic bomb related diseases. Between August 6th 1999 and August 5th 2000, 5,021 people were added to this list bringing the total killed from the bomb to 217,137. The inscription on the front of the stone coffin reads, "Let all the souls here rest in peace; for we shall not repeat the evil."
Daisho-in Temple on Miyajima
by Ines28
A true beauty, Daisho-in is Miyajima's most important temple. It once oversaw the administration of the Itsukushima-jinja and is a temple with everything: statues, gates, pools and carp. Amazingly, most people don't seem to get this far, the temple was very quiet though it is just behind the town and can be visited on the way down Misen.
NO WAR
by IJLAL
"HIROSHIMA"
I VISIT HIROSHIMA AT SEP 2000,
I KNEW THAT HIROSHIMA IS THE ONLY ONE CITY WHERE DORPED THE ATOM BOMB IN THE WORLD,
BEFORE REACH TO HIROSHIMA I THOUGHT THAT THERE WILL NOTHING TO SEE,JUST LIKE A DESERT,BUT WHEN WE REACHED TO THERE, I COULD,T BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HIROSHIMA ,
THEN I FEEL,
NO WAR ON EARTH.
LOVE & PEACE
