Looking for someone to guide us

by dutchbmx

Would anybody be willing to give my younger brother and two friends a tour of Hiroshima on Monday, August 21st? They are 21-22 year old Americans, really cool, have never been to Japan and don't know how to get around on their own. They will gladly pay for your attractions and meals, and will bring you gifts from America. I would accompany them, but I am stuck at my Nova job on that day in Yonago. I would like them to see Miya Jima island, the Peace Park, the Okonomayaki restaurant "tower" and whatever else you think is interesting. We would all really appreciate your help. Thanks so much!

Sincerely,
Nick Cohen-Meyer.

Hello,

I don't know anyone who can help your brother and friends on the 21st, but here are some websites in English that shows each attraction in Hiroshima area with a small map telling you how to get there. Hope it helps.

Also, they should see if they can get tickets to the baseball game when they are in Hiroshima. The baseball culture in Japan is quite different from what you see in any other sports in any countries.

ORIGAMI CRANES

by kiwigal_1

In Hiroshima you may see wreaths of coloured origami cranes. Each of these wreaths contain 100 paper cranes. They are a symbol of peace for the Japanese. It could be a fitting gesture to make one and place one in the memorial park yourself.

At the time of construction in 1589, Hiroshima Castle was the largest in western Japan, occupying an area many times its present size. Know as the 'carp castle', it was built by the feudal lord Terumoto Mori. In 1931, the castle was designated as a national treasure. After its destruction in the atomic bomb blast of 1945, it was reconstructed as it stands today.
Amazingly some of the trees in the compound survived the atomic bomb.

A-bomb Dome

by Sakura_Kobe

This is too famous as a symbol of Hiroshima city. An A-bomb exploded at 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945. The people inside were killed instantly, but a portion of the building escaped destruction, because the air blast arrived from almost directly overhead of it.

Hiroshima - what an experience !

by K1W1

I was unsure of what to expect when I arrived in Hiroshima, but it wasn't long before I realised that this is a really cool city. The attitude is positive and forward looking whilst remembering the catastophic history that sent it on it's very modern path.
The war museum is an absolute must, and takes several hours to appreciate. The memorial park and 'A' dome, which is now a UNESCO site ( much to the disgust of the US ), are very peaceful beside the river. A good spot to sit and contemplate what happened. Nearby, the city is rushing into the 21st century and has some great shopping and eating places. The large covered pedestrian mall is an attraction in itself with some great souvenir shops.
