Travel Tips for Hiroshima

Hiroshima Tip

by GenkiMac

HIroshima isn't a city you feel you need a break from the fast pace but it's always nice to find quiet places in any city and the river is it in Hiroshima.
Walking from the centre city past the A bomb dome and down to the river turn right as this is the nicest area with grass banks and apartments as opposed to tall city buildings. Take lunch and have a PICNIC!

Soft Drinks.

by Sharrie

Great choices when it comes to soft drinks. Just try any, chances are they are all good!
My favorite this summer is Gokuri Grapefruit juice. Marvelous!
These are musts, especially in this hot weather!

Nobori-Cho Elementary School

by Rabbityama

Everyone who travels to Hiroshima goes to Peace Park, and one of the most inspiring monuments is that of Sadako Sasaki, the little girl who folded the paper cranes in hopes of recovering from leukemia, but sadly died.

For those who are particularly moved by Sadako's story, you may be interested in taking a walk by Nobori-cho Elementary School. This is the elementary school that young Sadako attended until she was hospitalized in 1954 with leukemia, never again to return to school, although she received a diploma from her elementary school and was enrolled in junior high. In front of the school, there is a memorial statue of Sadako. Children still attend the school today.

Getting back to Nature!

by GenkiMac

You wouldn't expect Hiroshima, Japan to be the place to go for a bush walk but it really really is!!! If you haven't seen Japan's bush in the Autumn...you are missing out! If you haven't seen Japan's bush in the spring or summer you are missing out!!! I wouldn't reccomend certain places in mid snow mid winter though(the place this photo was taken was where my friends sister almost plunged to her death when we went walking in the snow!due to an inability to read the danger signs in Japanese!) All year round the bush is a beautiful place to be and despite the heavy popn in Japan the bush is never crowded.

Hiroshima, try not to shead a tear ...

by Pavlik_NL

"A city jerning for peace (will the world follow?)"

"My God ..." was the only entry in the co-pilots diary. On the 8th of August 1945 at 8.15 time stood still in Hiroshima-city. For some watches forever ... for some people forever. Try to not shead a tear when your at the grave that is burried under paper origami-birds folded by schoolchildren. If there is any place on earth that holds peace high, it's Hiroshima. They learned it the hard way, may nobody has to learn it in the way they did. Walking through memorial peacepark you will have many occasions with a lumb in your throught, but try to see that even out of this disaster, the city of Hiroshima bloomed up from the (radioactive!) ashes and although still many (elderly) people suffer radiation-effects (bad teeth, bold). The town is, because of the blast, not so Japanese as all other visited towns. It has a Western look with long avenues and streets in a chessboard-shape with mainly modern buildings.
More will be added ...
