Places to stay.

by sunl

We are going to Obihiro 3rd - 7th of september. All the big available hotels from the internet advertiseing in english are booked full. Due to the world rally champ.

Does anyone have any other good alternatives for staying there, near center of town? Preferably with e-mail address or fax number.

Try these but you may have to call direct or fax your reservation request.

For a western style room: http://www.obihiro-yado.com/English/european.html

For a Japanese style room: http://www.obihiro-yado.com/English/japanese.html

For a ryokan (inn), this info is only in Japanese but you can still try to fax an English request for a reservation:

Thank you very much for the good overview over the hotels and lodgings in obihiro.
Unfortunate for us that most links under japaneese is not understandable.

But I managed to find quiet a few faxnumbers and e-mails, so next step for me is to cross my fingers and se if we're lucky.

If worse comes to worst, you COULD stay, say, in Kushiro and take the first train (the "Ozora", or "Big Sky") out there in the mornings. I'll look for a link to help you. FABULOUS country up there... ENJOY!

My "Bible" for Japan has nothing on Obihiro. You may have to write JNTO -- which you should do anyway, if only to get their nifty little handbook called "Tourist's Language Handbook" and the Japan TravelPhone pamphlet.

Check out these links -- supplied to me by others:

and

Hope this helps some...

Well, you could stay with a family at this Minshuku. It's from a JNTO list -- supposedly most people speak English. Phone number is 0155--46-2058. Name is TOKACHIGAWA-Onsen. You could call them and hand cab driver phone and receive directions? Location is listed as "20 minutes by bus from Obhiro or Ikeda Stations on the JR Nemruo Honsen (bus) line. Just don't jump in their onsen or ofuru with soap still on your body of there'll be an international incident! Enjoy!
