Sapporo Snow festival
The world-famous Snow Festival is held at the beginning of February and takes place at three sites, Odori Park, Makomanai and Susukino. The huge artistic snow sculptures lit up colorfully at night time look spectacular. The White Illumination can be seen mainly in Odori Park, which is in the center of the city, from the middle of November to the middle of Feburuary. These artistic objects decorate the northern night sky, highlighting the poetic charm of winter.
Sapporo - A brewery and more

Our stay in Sapporo was brief, but worthwhile. We wondered the city, enjoyed a local festival in the parks, got sun burnt and ate too much... exactly what you should do on holiday.
On our way to Sapporo from Kanazawa, we opted to take the northern train along the coast. This is a slow journey, taking better part of 20 hours. At first we had seats, but gave them up for an elderly couple. Later, we found seats again, but gave them up to for another elderly couple. Eventually, we resorted to sitting on the steps between cars. Shortly there after, several people visited us, brought us papers to sit on, fruit to eat and refreshments. Many riders noticed our gestures and in kind were thanking us.
