I stayed in Tamaru when I was in Sapporo. This is the famous place for skiing. Unfortunately, the sonw is not thick enough while I visited, I miss it!!! But, you go in January/February, I'm sure you can enjoy it. I love the buffet provided from the hotel. It's a traditional buffet with the famous 'crabs'. Don't take too much crabs, if you can't finish them, you have to pay extra fees!

"Great food but not much to see"
Because of the timing, Sapporo is quite bare, most trees are still with only bare branches. But again, it is ending winter, so don't really get thick snow too. As you can see from the photo of Odori Park, layer of dirty overnight snow with some bare tree.
However, there is always great food to compensate. What we did is to eat & eat & eat ..
"Morning market"
selling carbs, small, medium large, any size, any type. There are some resturants that serve live seafood too.
"Ramen Alley"
small narrow with many Ramen stores, this one is always packed with people and serve first class Ramen
