If my brain serves me right the winter olympics were first held in japan in 1972 in Sapporo.
From any Olympics games it leaves venues for future generations and Olympics fans to visit.
I was wondering if anyone has ever visited any olympic sights in Sapporo or if anyone knows any websites with some more information?
Or have they all be pulled down meaning i should visit Nagano.
Just plan to goto Sapporo for a few days in winter. Willl be good to have some snow fun in japan

Sapporo is a good place to visit in the Winter, but if you are looking for Olympic venues, you are better off going to Nagano. Sapporo doesn't really have any tourist attractions related to the Olympics anymore.
That said, there is only one place that is still famous in Japan. The ski jump venue. You can go up to the top and enjoy the views, as well as go to a restaurant. I haven't been there myself, but it looks interesting. I probably wouldn't go though as it's a bit far.

While Sapporo doesn't really have any Olympic venues worth visiting, you should still go there in the winter. Especially in February. I'd highly recommend going between Feb. 7-13 next year. It's the annual Snow Festival. There are HUGE snow sculptures along the big park in central Sapporo (10 blocks worth) and there is an ice sculpture area nearby as well. If you head towards Otaru, you'll see a "Snow Gleaming Festival" that has smaller snow sculptures, but it's a lot more romantic as they have thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of candles lighting up the sculptures. The Snow Gleaming Festival is held for a shorter time though.

If you are going for the skiing, Sapporo is a good base to go to Niseko, the largest ski resort in Japan. From what I've been told, it's nice and a decent day trip from Sapporo.
Excellent response from dru46. Not much to add to that. I was at the Olympics in Sapporo back then, (fronting a tour group), but have not kept up on the upkeep of the facilities since then. It is however a winter paradise, something that does not change through the years. Have fun....d:o)
