Chitoseya Lodge by naruto A pension that is comfortable, friendly and serves great dinners! We had the sukiyaki on the first night and all the beef that we can eat. But for about 4000yen per person with two meals, It was fabulous. And beef in Japan ain't cheap. :) Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 954 Zao Onsen, Yamagata City Japan 990-2301Phone: 023-694-9145Directions: Take a 40 mins bus ride from the front of Yamagata Station. by SLLiew This is a chain business hotels in Japan. Excellent location. The room is slightly bigger than I expected as Japanese hotel rooms tend to be smaller than other countries.

This is a very small Ryokan just up the road from the town of Tsumago. It is run by a lovely family. Grandparents do the cooking, Dad runs the Inn and Son and daughter help. The daughter speaks excellent English, and was getting ready to leave with her school on a trip to New Zealand. The rooms are small (expected in Japan), but spotlessly clean. The baths were good and hot without being painful. The meals served in the dining room were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed them. Breakfast and dinner was included in the price. This was one of the least expensive Ryokan that we stayed in, but was one of our favorites due to the genuine kindness and friendliness shown by the 'staff'. We booked through japaneseguesthouses.com who provide the adress in Japanese (very handy).Website: www.japaneseguesthouses.com

by cheesecake17 After 10 o'clock at night most 'love hotels' accept 'stay' customers as well as 'rest' customers. For as little as ..6,000, you and your partner can get a room with 'interesting' decor (look for the ceiling mirrors and oddly-shaped beds). Because they charge per room, it works out at a great deal They are also very easy to spot, with flashy neon signs, gaudy architecture, and suggestive names like 'Hotel With,' 'Dream' and so on. In cities you can find them near entertainment areas, and in rural areas near highway interchanges and tourist spots You enter by a small door, into a subtly lit lobby, and choose a room from a lit display. You take the key, and ascend to your chosen room

by SLLiew Stayed as this JAL (Japan Airlines) airport tranist hotel at Narita Airport, near Tokyo, Japan. It is a complimentary hotel overnight accommodation for JAL (Japan Airlines) flight from USA to Malaysia. Clean, organized hotel with bus transfer from airport to hotel. No Japan visa required for Malaysians for this transit overnight in Japan. Disadvantage is that hotel is quite far from Narita town. Can take a cab to visit nearby town, temple or shopping center. Walking is can be done but far and cold if in winter.

by cheesecake17 Japan has a vast network of well-placed hostels. The basic price is around ..2,700 per night. They follow the same pattern as in the West, but usually have an early 'closing time,' prohibiting late-night forays. Many are in or near national parks, catering to hikers and school parties. Since they can be booked up by large groups, it's wise to check in advance if they have vacancies

If you put aside the strict wake-up and lights-out routine this hostel is a very good choice. You get to stay right at Teramachi (Temple Row) and end up being close to most things there is to see and do in Takayama. (See "Things to do - Takayama") The hostel is clean. Got a spacious common-area with free internet. There's a fridge for everyones use, however no stove to heat up food. There's a microwave though. Rooms are clean and you make your own futon on the floor, charing a room with up to 5 others. Private rooms are available. One thing to keep in mind though is that Takayama is a mountain-village! Do not make my mistake thinking just because the days were sunny and EXTREMELY hot, the nights would be warm too. If you can, grab an extra futon and blankets (got your own sleepingbag? Perfect!). Nights are absolutely freezing! (I was there end of May) Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 83 Tensho-ji-machiDirections: Walk 25min across town or take bus for Shin-Hotaka and get off at Betsuin-mae stop.
