HIMEJI TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER

There is an information center right outside of JR Himeji Station central exit. Come here for information & maps of Himeji. Open daily 10am-3pm. English staff available at certain times of the day. 0792-85-3792
There is also an information office underneath the station at FESTA with museum brochures & more maps. This is a self-service office. Go downstairs after exiting the train ticket gate, turn right and go straight down the shopping hall. Turn right again at the end and the information office is at the end of the hall in the corner on the right. They open until 7pm.
Walking their Prairie Dogs

Not necessarily a cultural thing, but this was an interesting sight on the walk to Himeji Castle. Two guys were walking there dressed up prairie dogs (it wasn't even a street entertainer/peddling scheme either).
Best Place for Cherry Blossom Viewing

Most first time visitor will rush forward to area in Himeji Castle to catch best cherry blossom with the castle view. You will have to compete with the locals and other visitors in large group
in order to get best spot.
However I found a better place to view of the castle and same time enjoy the gracious pinky colour trees.
All you need to do: Once cross over the bridge and the entrance gate turn to your left, a steep hill covered the cherry blossom trees, walk up further you will get into hidden corners which facing the river or the moat and the back of you will be the castle.
REMEMBER- Cherry Blossom viewing is absolutely FREE

You can visit a water park, an amusement park, and safari park all in one place at HIMEJI CENTRAL PARK! The water park is open only during the summer. It`s a little worn but the rides are still fun. The highlights: RIVER RAPIDS & BODY SURFING DOWNHILL. The amusement park is small but enough. Highlight: the twister coaster DIAVLO. The safari park is a drive-through park so you must have a car to go to this park. (Sorry I can`t comment on this park since I didn`t get a chance to go here.)

It's the reason that you go to Himeji. This is the best preserved castle in Japan. Nicknamed "The White Heron" due to its white walls, the castle is a marvel of Japanese architecture and makes for a great day trip from other cities.
