Castle and museum
by Pavlik_NL
The castle of Himeji is not just an beautiful example of a Japanese castle, inside there is also a museum that shows life in Shogun-era. With attributes, puppets etc. one has rebuilt pictures of the past. Very intresting, of course especially for a "Gaidjin" like me.

Don't pack an umbrella...
by ttqtndct
It will probably rain if you are in Himeji in the spring and you will want an umbrella but I'd wait until you get there and buy one-there are adorable umbrellas in every color, size and pattern. They make a great souvenir too.
Small town in between Kobe and Hiroshima
by Pavlik_NL
Speeding with Shinkansen (bullet-train) from Kobe to Hiroshima the small town of Himeji is "off the beaten path". If one however knows (by reading or being informed) about the castle of castles in Japan, it's not that difficult to implement a stop-over here. Again, for James Bond-fans ... it's almost a must (You only live twice)
Italian food plus goodies...

I`ve been here a few times already & only for lunch. Their lunch set includes one of their dishes on their lunch menu, a choice of white rice or all you can eat bread/rolls, a choice of salad or soup (if you want both, its 200yen extra), & dessert. All for 1000yen!! I always choose a pasta but they have gratin, meat dishes, & pizza as well. My favorite pastas are eggplant & spinach with meat sauce, and octopus with fish eggs in a cream sauce. The rolls are delicious & they have a variety you can choose from: chocolate chip rolls, Japanese pumpkin, plain, buttered, swirled, cinnamon, etc.
Lunch is from 11:30am-4pm. Dinner 5:30pm-11pm.
