The Sun Garden Hotel: The Sun Garden Hotel
Unique Quality: Nothing particularly unique about this Western style hotel. Very compact and clean and offered a nice breakfast buffet in the morning.

Apartment.: Apartment.
Considering prices for EVERYTHING in Japan were fairly high, I would expect that renting an apartment would be too.
Unique Quality: Most of my sleeping time in Hitachi was spent in an apartment rented by Hitachi(company) for myself and another woman. It was an interesting experience - trying to learn to use a washing machine with all the buttons in Japanese! We lived as Japanese like as possible, sleeping on futons and even had some Japanese cooking lessons. This is a picture of our apartment. It was a 15 minute walk to a grocery store and a 5 minute walk and a bus ride to work.
