On the river Sai, KanazawaGokayama
A short ride, about an hour, outside of Kanazawa is the mountain world heritage site of Gokayama. Gokayama is a village of traditional “A” frame thatch roofed houses. You should be able to arrange transport by bus from Kanazawa station. The town itself contains multiple traditional houses, gift shops selling all kinds of knickknacks and 3 museums housing traditional tools as well as showcasing the architecture. Also, if you desire, you can stay over night in the village in a rather expensive accommodation. A day trip is highly recommended since the town is highly atmospheric and picturesque.
