If you have friends in the area and/or have access to a car, you can take a long day and enjoy the summer weather. Take a few hours to the beach and enjoy the sea. Then pack up and head up the hills to the southwest of the beach and find a spot to make a BBQ along the river. If you find a good spot, you'll continue to have sunlight for more of the afternoon/evening and you will be able to soak in pools of the river.
While in the beautiful Nagamachi area check out the awesome Samurai Museum. See authentic armor, swords and other samurai stuff. The layout of the house and garden are excellent examples of Edo era Japanese style. Entrance is 500 yen and if you choose to have tea in the upper room, it is an extra 300 yen.
