Minshuku Suzukaze: The best in Shibushi (Kagoshima-ken)

Just back from a five-weeks-trip through Southern Japan I have to admit that one of my best experiences regarding accomodation was the Minshuku Suzukaze in Shibushi. This Minshuku is a few kilometers outside the city, surrounded by lots of green. It is run by Masuda-san, an English speaking former school teacher, and his wife. It is located on a wide compound and consists of three large buildings (a fourth will be constructed in the next future), all furnished in Japanese style. I stayed in the main house in a large Japanese room (11 tatami) with aircon/heating and a huge TV set. The restrooms and the bathroom are nearby and barrier free. All is in a very clean, not to say perfect condition. As the whole place is non-smoking inside, outside there is a spacious verandah, where smokers can enjoy without bothering anyone else...Included was a great breakfast - and loads of hospitality. Masuda-san will pick you up for free at the bus-terminal or at the train station and he will provide a safe return. If someone wants to relax after a busy trip through Japan I would clearly recommend the Minshuku Suzukaze, thanks to its very hospitable and friendly owners. Not to forget the room rate: It's more than fair 4000 Japanese Yen!

Green farmland around, great for cycling, swimming, surfing, relaxing. There is an Onsen nearby. The train travel down from Miyazaki is a unique 2 1/2-hours-experience in a yellow one-waggon-diesel-railcar (JR Nichinan Line) along the coast and through thick bamboo forests. Also there are buses to Miyazaki, Kagoshima City and Miyakonojo available. Not to forget a huge ferry from and to Osaka...
