Travel Tips for Yokohama

Yokohama Chinatown Entrance

by hotshot0428

Yokohama's Chinatown is one of the largest in the world. Over 500 different stores from souviner, restaurant, clothes and many others are squeezed together, representing the energy and liveliness of the people living and working there. When you're in Japan do the Japanese ways like make sign of PEACE for pictures and guys don't get serious. Life is too short.

Yokohama Silk Museum

by CliffClaven

Yokohama's Silk Museum was opened in 1959 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the port of Yokohama to foreigners. The museum is actually located on the site of the British trading firm Jardine Matheson & Co, model for the Struan company in James Clavell's novels set in Hong Kong and Japan. The museum shows the history of silk production and displays a series of beautiful silk kimonos. Nowadays, a wedding kimono can cost a million yen or more.

I'll be back!

by SharrieShaw

Nov. 14, 2005.

When was it the last time I was here?
So long ago I've no recollection!
It's time to be back...

After an marvelous & eventful vacation to the French Polynesia I decided to stopover in Yokohama for the night.
It turned out to be a good decision.

Yokohama is just a little farther than Tokyo from Narita. It takes about 90 mins by Narita Express to reach Yokohama station. The cost? 4000 yen.
I got a room at the Sheraton Yokohama Bay which is just a few steps away from the station. Excellent location. For shoppers, that is. Sogo & Takashimaya are next to the station!

Well, this is the sight from my room at the Sheraton! Not bad eh?!
