Narita Airport - Transit Hotel

by SLLiew about Hotel Nikko

Stayed as this JAL (Japan Airlines) airport tranist hotel at Narita Airport, near Tokyo, Japan.

It is a complimentary hotel overnight accommodation for JAL (Japan Airlines) flight from USA to Malaysia.

Clean, organized hotel with bus transfer from airport to hotel. No Japan visa required for Malaysians for this transit overnight in Japan.

Disadvantage is that hotel is quite far from Narita town. Can take a cab to visit nearby town, temple or shopping center. Walking is can be done but far and cold if in winter.

JAPAN AIRLINES

by Sharrie

Official Site: JAL.co.jp

JAL is one of my most favorite airlines in the world, if not the most favorite.

No, I don't work in JAL.

I like the service, the soba on flight & the green tea being served.
Easy? Yeah, I'm a simple, easy to please :-)

Oh, not to forget the Kirin Beer!

JAL is always full.
So, I guess many people, esp. the Japanese loves it as well.
The airline hardly has promotional sales either. & it's mileage program isn't as generous as those of the States!

You wonder why?
Well, I think they treat their passengers like people. That's why!

JAL - Japan Airlines

by SLLiew

Airline Flight Code: "JL"

Remember a great flight to Tokyo from Kuala Lumpur. Pre-order Japanese "bento" for meal. We tried "sake" wine hot and cold version. When approachig Tokyo Narita airport, about 1 hour to go, the pilot woke up and asked to view the window on our left. We saw the conical dramatic shape of Mt. Fuji about the clouds!

If you are flying to Malaysia from North America, you will probably have to stay overnight. Good news is that JAL will put you at "Nikko Hotel" near the airport with meal coupon and there is usually no requirement of a Japanese visa for this transit. Check on visa requirement based on your passport.

Domestic flights within Japan

by salisbury3933

Airfares in Japan have definitely been affected by deflation in recent times, and often travelling by plane is cheaper than using the trains. It is easy to book online and in English.

Going to Korea

by salisbury3933

Getting to Korea is pretty easy these days, as just about every city of a reasonable size will have flights to Seoul. Bigger cities also have flights to Busan,Daegu and Jeju island.

Asiana offers flights between places like Matsuyama, Takamatsu, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Sendai and Seoul, as well as the bigger centres.

JAL, ANA and Korean also have many flights between the big cities and Seoul/Busan.

If your final destination in Japan is a regional area, it may be worthwhile looking at Asiana or Korean Air, and transferring in Seoul.

Taking cat to Japan

by Robachu1

Can anyone recommend one airline which is better than the others with regard to pets?

Re: Taking cat to Japan

by Bilimari

Hi,
Since you live in Japan (per your member page), do you plan to fly within Japan with a pet? Both JAL and ANA usually take good care of pets according to my friends in Japan who took dog with them. (Checked in pets in a cage.) If you plan to carry on your pet, I don't think there'd be much of difference among the airlines in Japan.
FYI, JAL has this service for Pet: http://www.jal.co.jp/en/dom/service/pet/

When I tried to bring a pet with me, I found that some airlines won't take pets (if you plan to check in, and not carry on) during certain seasons, so it's best that you check with the airlines for the detail, once you narrow it down to 2-3 possible airlines.

12hours in Narita

by sublim8

Hi,
I have a 12hr forced stopover in Narita Monday 0900>2100 any ideas on short trips/sightseeing

thanx John

Re: 12hours in Narita

by mcleong

If you're on a JAL flight, they'll put you up at Nikko Narita hotel, where they have a shuttle bus (free!) to the city and Aeon shopping mall. I would suggest Aeon as it's big and there's an ajacent mall too!

I was in your "shoes" 3 weeks ago enroute to Hawaii on JAL.

Re: 12hours in Narita

by revnecro1273

that is a lot of time so you should be able to venture outside the airport. going through passport control at narita takes a while, but with that amount of time on your hands you will have no problem. once you get outside the airport look for shuttle buses to hotels. they are free and would not know if you were booked in a given hotel or not. from a hotel you can take a shuttle bus into narita city which is a free service by the hotels. again they would not know if you were staying there or not. should pass your lengthy lay over there

Re: JAPANESE AIRLINES

by jrs1234

Hi Berni -

I took one of these cheap deals via Japan a few years ago - the value for money was great, but it is a long flight - on the way back I got a stop-over for one night. Didn't see anything apart from the hotel, though - but I did buy a nice Japanese print which is currently hanging on my wall...

Cheers,

Jeremy

Re: Re: JAPANESE AIRLINES

by BerniShand

thanks, its an amazingly cheap deal, and we would do a stopover to break the flight, still dithering between this and Singapore airlines which is loads more expensive [ simply because l always wanted to have a Singapore Sling in Raffles bar ! ]

Re: Re: JAPANESE AIRLINES

by ammy28

hehe
actually you can have Singapore Sling onbroad even you travel in economy class if you travel with Singapore Airline :>
Cheers

JAL

by heywinks

I have flown JAL a few times, domestic only. The service was always excellent & the food not bad. I would fly with them again if I found a good deal. Not sure how service is with international flights though, but knowing the Japanese I bet it's top rate. :)
