by cm4

Hi all, never been to japan so would like to know in detail how to

(1) Visit Kamakura from Shin Yokohama area...i would like to see the great buddlha and see some temples, (walk-able?) between the kita kamakura and kamakura stations? Any idea it can be done in a day? How much is the train fees etc?

(2)Visit toyko Imperial palace and Asakusa Kannon Temple from Shin Yokohama? If i take the JR tokaido or Yokosuka Line, where should i stop? Or any better way?

(3) To Shibuya from Shin Yokohama...do i use JR tokaido or Yokosuka Line? Worth visiting?

For fare, time, etc, this is the best info out there: http://www.hyperdia.com/

The temples are scattered all over the Kamakura area. It depends on how many you want to see. We spent a good day there to see only a few of the important ones. There is a train/bus pass that you can possibly get. Don't have the site handy, just google Kamakura train pass and that should come up.

Hi~

You could take the JR train to Kamakura from Shin Yokohama. From the website provided above, it takes abt 47 mins to reach with a transfer at Yokohama Station.

Im also planning a day trip to Kamakura, but from Tokyo. This is what I gathered after getting advice from other tripadvisors~ In my case, I have the JR Pass, and hence will only be getting Enoshima Kamakura Kippu B which allows unlimted usage on the Enoden Line only. If you have the JR Pass, you can consider this as well. If not, you may consider getting the Kamakura Enoshima Free Kippu. For more information, you can look at this website:

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2358_004.html

Note that this is available for two days.

My itinerary would be:
1) Visit Enoshima via Enoden Line
2) Visit Hase-dera and Daibutsu (via Enoden Line; at Hase Station)
3) Hase Station -> Kamakura Station (via Enoden line)
4) Visit Tsurugaoda Hachiman-gu
5) Walk/Take JR to Kiti-Kamakura Station.
6) If there is time, you may want to visit Engaku-ji and other temples in Kitakamakura area.

hope it helps.

No need if you are staying in and around Tokyo. Only worthwhile if you are travel much farther away, like to Osaka.

< Kishamichi Promenade/Unga Park >

Kishamichi is a promenade that takes advantages of several key assets in the area, including some abandoned rail tracks and a truss-style bridge. Visitors along the route can enjoy calm water and views of the urban landscape. Served by the promenade, Unga Park is a base for waterfront recreation located at the gateway to the leafy Shinko District.
