I've been to Kumamoto twice
"Kumamoto Castle (Kumamoto-Jo)"
The first time I went to Kumamoto was to see Kumamoto Castle back in August of 1992 with my Japanese host family.
The last time I went there was during Golden Week of May 1999.
Kumamoto Castle was the first Japanese Castle I'd ever seen. My plan is to someday visit all the castles in Japan.
"Inside Kumamoto Castle"
Japanese castles are filled with historical artifacts. They're a good place to get a look at Samurai Armor, swords , and other weapons of old.
The castles tend to say a bit about Japans political, social, and former agrarian history.
The castles were the political strongholds of the daimyo which ruled Japan under the Shogun.
The power of the daimyo often depended on the economic wealth of the region. Rice determined wealth and power. Those fiefs that had the most rice had the most power.

Monkeys!
