Palace Side Hotel: Standard budget hotel

by unaS

In Japan budget hotels are called 'businessmans hotel'

The Palace Side Hotel is a standard budget hotel. My single room is large but no closet, only an open niche with 3 hangers.
Nice room, 5th floor, good view with the former Imperial Palace Park across the street.

Good enough for the price.

Close to the Karasuma line - couple of minutes walk.
Quiet and pleasant area with easy travel to wherever.
Free internet in the lobby with a 30 minute limit.

Coin laundry, vending machines and kitchen available to guests.

Still gets good reviews on Trip Advisor.

The location is very convenient - close to the underground and far enough from the center to be quiet and pleasant. Just across the street from the Old Imperial Palace. The gardens of the palace are the view from the hotel.

Free internet - the time limit is not always enforced, pick your hours carefully :)

Map provided on their site.

Kyoto Hotel Okura: Typical Western Hotel

by lesaandbill

This hotel was very comfortable with a lot of good restaurants inside the hotel. It was close and convenient to everything...and was overall, a nice experience.

The rooms were a typical western hotel with large beds, desk, table and a tub, separate shower and the typical GREAT japanese toilet. I know people talk about the toilet experience in japan...but the japanese really have perfected the toilet!...they even had little buttons to push to make noise to be more private...it was a hoot!

Westin Miyako Kyoto Hotel: The Westin deserves a great reputation

by lesaandbill

We flew in from Oz...so we wanted a nice, comfortable bed for the night and there is nothing like a Heavenly bed at the Westin. We ended up getting a deal on their website for $88AUD...and we were impressed by the swanky new hotel.

Many rooms in Japan are smoky...so make sure you ask for a nonsmoking room... Also...they have a shuttle..but it starts at 9 or 10am and stops at 6pm. Otherwise it's a $20AUD cabride.

Otherwise...the food, service and everything was excellent. Probably one of the best things about this hotel was the convenience of being able to drop off our luggage...and pick it back up in the kyoto station. It was first class...and especially convenient because we shot up to tokyo on the bullet train and just took our backpacks.

The views from the hotel are great...and the gardens were amazing. We didn't stay long...but want to go back...

Yuhara Ryokan: Nice Kyoto Ryokan

by foglifter

This little Ryokan (traditional japanese inn) was on the east side of Kyoto, south of Gion (geisha district) district and near Maruyama Koen, a park with with Yasaka Shrine at it's base. Cheap, clean. This is great for those on a budget that want to experience old school hospitality. It had shared baths and showers. I didn't mind since I was traveling alone. I stayed in the off-season so I can't judge the noise level if it was full. Yet it was in a quiet neighborhool fronting onto a beautiful little canal.

It's my only Ryokan experience so I can't tell if it's unique.

K's House Kyoto -- Backpackers Hostel: Clean and home feel budget hostel

by Cyncyn

I stayed in this hostel for almost 10 days. These days I made myself just at home. The living environment was very comfortable. Although there were full house sometimes, toilets and bathing room were enough. There were a very nice kitchen, cooking utensils and big fridges. So if you like to cook in your trip, no problem to make a delicous meal for you and your family.

Bsides, the rental fee is not expensive for 4-6 persons' dormitory only $2500. The bed is large enough for different nationalities. Well , all rooms are contained with air conditioners. Expeciallly in summer, it seems a necessaries for people get use to city living.

If you want to have a look , please check the home page of it. Adn the pictures I put here.

I have to mention that the staffs inside this hostel are good at english. And they are extremly kind to the visitors. You can get the polite answer you could easily have for any trivial requests and enquiries.

Booking is quite hard in travelling season. Make early booking !

oh! you can easily make friends all over the world. I had great times to meet few friends there ! I am appreciated that I made the right choice.

No curfew
Internet service
Fully eqipped kitchen
Individual shower rooms
Washing machine and dryer
english speaking staff
Tatami lunge room
Courtyard with benches
Bicycle rental

This is an clean and safe hostel to stay in Kyoto and is very central. I would highly recommend this place and it's at a great price (for Japan). When I ws there in April 2003 I paid approx $25 US. It also has bicycle rentals as well, riding distanceto most of Kyoto's site seeing destination .

It has al the amenties and friendly and helpful owners.
