do the following things: go to Kibune for lunch on one of the restaurant platforms over the stream;
Go to Ohara to Sanzen-in and a walk around the country-side (unfortunately, Jakko-in was burnt by an arsonist recently, so you won't be able to see that);
Go to the Heian Shrine gardens; Walk around Yoshida-yama (leave at least an afternoon for this one!); Do all the other things people tell you in the tourist pamphlets. You'll probably end up needing months to do it all! I would have to say that my fondest memory of Kyoto is of my wedding party under the falling cherry blossoms. We had the bluest of skies that day, were joined by great friends, and drank excellent champagne. What can beat that?

Yoshino is south of Kyoto, located in Nara-ken. It's a famous place of watching cherry blossoms and red leaves. About 2 hours of trains from Kyoto, with a change of train at Kashihara-jingu-mae, you'll arrive the skirt of Yoshino-yama. From where, you can either take the ropeway or the bus to get to the mountain area. If you're lucky enough to go at the right time of the season, you can see 'ocean' of cherry blossoms all over the mountain.

by j-san about Musashi - Kaiten zushi
This is a very popular rotating sushi restaurant with both locals and tourists. All plates are 120Yen and I suggest ordering freshly whenever possible, as it always tastes better than what's on the conveyor belt. When your are done eating, ask them to give you a "kaikei" (bill) and go and pay at the front. At Musashi, they round DOWN the price to the next whole number, eg. 859 yen will be 850yen etc. Nice! 1) "yaki harasu": ginger and deliciously fatty salmon
2) "onion salmon": salmon with raw onion and mayonnaise
3) "maguro no yuke": pieces of raw tuna marinated in soy sauce and sesame seeds, topped with chopped green onions AND a raw quail egg, all wrapped in toasted seaweed!!)
(not pictured: "negi toro": similar to "maguro no yuke" except the tuna is pureed and there is no raw egg)
Kiyomizu Temple - So Much to See

We walked here along a path next to a hillside cemetery that was in a lovely setting. We went back along the road leading up to the gate where free samples abound (snacks, cookies, mochi triangles, tea, pickles, etc.).
It is very scenic here and you can go for a nice walk through the extensive grounds. One area is devoted to shrines and good luck fortunes.
I took lots of pictures. Including some of geishas.
