Visit at least two temple...

Visit at least two temple areas: Rokuon-ji, also known as Kinkaku (Golden Pavilion) temple and Kiyomizu temple grounds. Areas=many acres of temples, shrines, tea rooms, carefully tended gardens. You will not be disappointed. Haruko met us at Kyoto Station to take us to her lovely house in a very nice part of town where we were to stay for two days. Large sliding glass doors in her living room opened to a garden with trees, flowers and small pond where koi (Japanese carp) swam. Our friend explained that if not for the metal grate over the pond, heron from the nearby river would eat her fish.
Arashiyama
by naruto
Arashiyama is a lovely and very pleasant area just northwest of central Kyoto city. It isn't on most visitors list of places to visit, but if you have an extra day and temple fatigue, a trip to Arashiyama is a great way to spend the day.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Togetsukyo Bridge
Cherry blossoms (in the spring)
Natural foliage
Quaint shops, country-style
Tenryuji Temple (if your temple fatigue isn't too severe)
GETTING THERE:
From Kyoto Station to Arashiyama, take the JR Sagano Line (San-in Line) to Saga-Arashiyama Station (about 15 minutes)
Walk 5 minutes into the centre of Arashiyama.
GETTING AROUND:
On foot is the best way to explore Arashiyama
Travel Bus Niigata to Kyoto (Osaka)
by KevinMichael
One of the best, cheaper ways to travel Japan is by overnight highway bus.
We took an overnight highway bus (starting around 10:15 PM and arriving around 6:15 AM) from Niigata city to Kyoto. Overall, the buses are more comfortable than travel by train. And one big advantage is the windows are covered with curtains so that the passengers can sleep. The buses usually make a few rests stops on the way.
Cost wise, we ended up spending about 15,000 each on round trip tickets.

Jogyo-Do and Hokke-Do temple
Both of these temples are important cultural assets. They are also called "Ninai-do". Ninani can be interpreted in many different ways. The most popular understanding is "Benkai"'s Nina from an anecdote monk "Benkei" who once lifted both temples over his shoulders. Another meaning is to illustrate the union between two temples between the lotus Sutra and the Nenbutsu.
The image of Buddha "Amida" is enshrined in the "Jogyo-Do" temple. "JoKyo Do" temple is used to train monks for "Jogyozanmai" (Walking Meditation) and "Hokke-Do" temple is used to train monks for Hokkezanmai (Walking and Sitting Meditations).
