Yahoo travel only lists five in the prefecture and none in the city itself.

I'm sure there are more since these are just the ones with web pages but I doubt that you will find any near the city.

Camping sites around Kyoto...??

by heywinks

There is a camping site in Kyoto called TenkiTenki Mura (TenkiTenki Village). I can't quite read the information on the website of the Japan Auto Camping Federation but you can try asking a Japanese person on VT to help you translate. If I'm right, it's 4000yen for 2 ppl.
Go to: http://www.autocamp.or.jp/autocamp/
then click on the yellow circle link on the left. Kyoto is the 4th section down on the right, 3rd one over.

Kyotango City, where TenkiTenki Mura is located, is over two hours by train from Kyoto station.

Assuming you're in Japan, what I would do is go to a local book store and take a look at the most detailed road atlas you can find and check for the camping symbols near your vicinity. That will tell you if there are any campgrounds in the area.

Most campgrounds are used by road trippers so probably not a very good option if you don't have your own transportation. Probably youth hostel is a better option.

Thanks, Mike! :) I couldn't read where in Kyoto; just saw the Kyoto link. :)

If you're going to the bookstore anyway you might as well take a look at the campground guidebooks. If you're not sure where to look, print out this Kansai campground guidebook listing: http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4635012727/ and ask them to take you to this book or something similar. Then, if have trouble figuring out what you need, grab some cute girl nearby and get her to help you. :-)

The Kiyomizu-dera (Temple of Pure Water) was erected in 798, but most of the surrounding buildings were reconstructed during the early 1600's under Shogun Iemitsu Tokugawa.

There are a lot of shops and small snack places along the slope to the temple, so you can buy many souvenirs here. The most beautiful time to visit this temple is during Hanami (early April) when the cherry blossoms bloom, or during the Autumn.

There's a great view of Kyoto from the temple, and don't forget to drink the water!

Ideally, take the bus, as parking is limited and expensive.

Adult: 300 Yen

Hours: 8:00 - 18:30

Pray at the shrine at Kinkakuji Temple

by joiwatani

There are so many people forming in line to pray for many things at the shrine located at the Kinkakuji Temple. The shrine is very small compared to other temples in Kyoto. There is a place to write down your wishes and prayers and there are translations in each of every wish or prayer.

There is also a box where people make donations. It is very fascinating to see how people freely give donations for the shrine.
