Although I stayed here in 1981 I know it still exists! In the North of Kyoto near Daitoku-ji Temple.I min walk from bus or 15 min from subway.
Unique Quality: Sleep on tatami mats on floor. Share facilities ( hot tub VERY hot) Japanese gardens and sliding rice-paper screens.I thoroughly enjoyed my three nights here! Costs 1800 yen and up
Directions: Daitokuji Temple District
I have stayed there three times. It is a ryokan-style hostel with primarily foreign guests. Individual rooms are available for 1-7 guests, or single or small groups of travelers can share one of the larger rooms for an incredibly low price. Shared bath facilities, shared kitchen. I recommend the first floor room in the rear if you have a large-enough group (4 or more), it had a wonderful ambiance and is cool in the hot kyoto summers.
Unique Quality: Tani House is a private hostel; the owner, Mrs. Tani, has been actively assisting international Kyoto visitors since Expo ’70 Osaka; her home has all J-style rooms; private rooms from \1,700 (hostel fee) for one person
Directions: North of Kita-oji, near Daitoku-ji Temple
I just got a room at the Tani House Annex in downtown Kyoto, has anyone been to the Annex? PLease let me know what your opinion is, is it more like a hostel, hotel or ryokan. From the info there are only two rooms in the annex? Again i do not know about it but it seems like a really good deal especially with my own bathroom.I assume there is no curfew.
thanks for any advice
