Thanks for the info! Possible VT meeting?

by meimivw

I just want to say thank you for the overwhelming information that I see in the forum. I am trying to limit myself from the excitement of my japan visit as well because my bofriend is already giving me a guilt trip with the fact that I am going to explore Japan without him. So, it's hard to decide where to go because I would like to save some of the sites for my next visit with him.

Anyway, since I am going to be in japan for five days (leaving me only 3 full days to visit Kyoto and Osaka)....I would love to meet some of you guys. I will be going in the area on Nov 30 (Tue) to Dec 4 (Sat) but I am trying to consider on maybe extending my visit to one or two more days if I can get to meet some of fellow members. Since I am going to be traveling alone it's nice to know that I know somebody in the area.

Also, I will be leaving KIX at 14:00 and staying at Higashiyama-ku in Kyoto. Do you think it's a good idea to visit Fushimi Inari early in the morning and then dash back to the inn to leave for the airport with the limousine bus?

Hi,Veronica!
Welcome to Kyoto :-)

Ohhh, I wish I could join the VT Meeting...
But unfortunately I'm working from Monday to Friday... and that weekend I will go on a short trip with my co-workers...
I hope you will have a great meeting. :-)

About the Fushimi Inari,
It will take almost 2 hours by Limousine bus from Kyoto station to Kansai Int'l Airport.
Your flight is 14:00,,, so you have to arrive there by 12:00...then you have to leave Kyoto at 10:00 at the latest. ( I recommend you to leave earlier.)
Here's timetable of the Limousine bus.

So if you visit Fushimi Inari in the morning, you have to get up very very early. Good luck.

Travel Tips for Kyoto

Purify your self

by daryll

Purification its a way to wash your with natural water before present yourself to God; Shinto way.

To purify yourself, well is available courtyard or normally located left hand side before the temple or the shrine entrance.

Key to remember during purification:
1. Never put your flesh even your hair into the well. (considered rude and disrespectful)
2. Always use the tip of the handle to take water.
3. Never allow scoop of the handle in contact with human body.

REMEMBER: Natural Water is Drinkable. Dont forget to feel up your bottle and no need to buy

An Evening Stroll through Ponto Cho & Gion

by BorderHopper

Since we were travelling with our toddler son we didn't visit the traditional bars and clubs that can be foubd all around Ponto Cho and the Gion. A nice alternative is to do some people watching during a long walk from the Gion, across the Kawagama River, through Ponto Cho, and into the "Floating World" of Kiyamachi-dori.

Sushi at the satation

by Gili_S

At one of the evening on Kyoto we decided to try the local sushi restaurant at the railway station. It was looking as typical place with the dishes pass by you where you can chose the ones you like. However, they also offer you a menu where you can order additional and different items that are not on the line. (see images) The food was good and the service was very friendly. Sushi

Do it for the cultural experience

by kooka3

I really wanted to see the Gion district after reading Memoirs of Geisha. Even though it is fictional, it accurately represents the geisha experience.

The trip didn't disappoint. There were several women in full geisha regalia, but they were most likely tourists who paid for the experience of dressing up and getting toured around the district. It is rare to see real geishas now that the practice is starting to die out.

However, if you are interested in geishas at all, visit this area. I would recommend doing some reading on this subject - it is fascinating!

The Beautiful Arashiyama

by sandrafiza

I took a train from Shijo-Omiya to Arashiyama. At first we did not even plan to go to Arashiyama. It just that we stay in Shijo-Omiya and i notice this cute train and wonder where it go to. I look at the train map and saw that the last station is Arashiyama and the ticket price is not expensive. So we go back to the hotel and did some reading in VT.

When we reach the station, we were so surprise. Is this Arashiyama-the place is so diffrence than the city. Since we did not have any guide or map when we arrived we decide to just follow the obachan to which ever direction they go. Then we saw the river, the boat and everything. This place is so peaceful and beautiful. And a lot of place to eat.

I plan to go there again on my next trip to Kyoto *_^
