Youth Hostel in Kyoto

Although located outside of Kyoto downtown, easy access by local bus taking less than 30 minutes.

The hostel is open to international as well as local Japanese youths. Strangely, no age limit imposed. Locals and foreigners are separated into different rooms.

Nice common hot bath soak. Must be out of the room in the morning and only back in the late afternoon.

Unfortunately, from internet, the hostel is under renovation until March 2008.

Hostels under the Hostelling International

"Youth Hostel" is a global network of accommodation for travelers, originated in Germany. Youth Hostel, of which basic concept is to provide lodging place for anyone who wants to enjoy safe, pleasant and economical traveling, now extends its network by covering 80 countries all over the world with 5,500 hostels. In Japan, approximately 350 facilities are scattered throughout the country from Hokkaido to Okinawa, offering accommodation at very reasonable overnight fee of about 3,000 yen per night (around 5,000 yen on half-board basis).

There are 3 such hostels in Kyoto.
1. Higashiyama (112 Goken-cho, Sanjyodoi-Shirakawabashi, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto)
2. Utano
3. Kitayama (Koetsuji-hotori, Takagamine, Kita-ku, Kyoto)

YH in Kyoto

Nice place and friendly staff
you feel welcome
you can have diner and breakfast included in you night tip. everybody sit at the same table, nice when you travel alone.
the bathroom is pretty small but the atmosphere is great
I really appriciated my (short) stay there !
and the bus station is just in front of the YH.
I recommand this place.

CHARGES: (per night per person) overnight 2500 yen (adults), 2000 yen (19 and under); air conditioning 150 yen; sheets150 yen (three nights); supper 850 yen, breakfast 500.

CHECK-IN: 15:30-22:00.

CHECK-OUT: 10:00.

ACCESS: Take city bus #26 from platform B-2 at the bus terminal in front of Kyoto station. Get off at the Youth Hostel-mae bus stop. It's a one minute walk from there. Or take city bus #10 or #59 from Keihan Sanjo and get off at the Youth Hostel mae bus stop.

Friendly Youth Hostel @Kyoto

There is a kitchen and a canteen. u may pay 500 yen to have breakfast - buffet style with western and japanese food.

The staffs are very friendly, and the other people in our dorm are also very friendly too.

There is also laundry area outside, and next to it is a small garden where u can look at the sakura while drinking a cup of hot tea. It may be "cultural shock" for some of u... as the bathroom is common bath concept. There are stools for u to sit while bathing. And there is a common bath tub with hot water (can accommodate about 6 people)... feel so comfortable :)
