YUZUYA RYOKAN
by johnram27 about YUZUYA RYOKAN
Great staff and beautiful ryokan! It's only a year old but feels as if it's been there for years. It's built on a little cranny on a hill right in the heart of Gion, Kyoto. Next to a shrine, or was it a temple? Anyways, it's a great starting point for a scenic walk thru the old streets of Kyoto to the big Kyomizu Temple as the final destination. The breakfast and dinner were amazing presentations and delicious!! What was nice is the staff took time to explain each course (7 courses total and a 2 course dessert!) Made from local veggies in season, fish and meat....it was a memorable experience enjoying the meals besides seeing the sights of the city. All meals incorporate Yuzu (a type of lemon) in the dishes, very tasty! Even the soap in the bathrooms is lemon scented. My only complaint was that the dining room could have used some quiet koto music to set the mood. The dining room overlooks a priavte waterfall that masks the sounds of the city. Cleverly hidden from view, you feel as if you are in a mountain resort. If you strain to look, you'll realize you are bellow a parking lot! The staff speaks English and are top notch.

Yuzuya ryokan in Kyoto
by Illeana
Hello, we plan to be in Kyoto during the 3rd week of March and a friend recommended the Yuzuya Ryokan.
I could not find any real information on it. I wrote to them, but they included in their answer an attachment that was deleted by my virus protection. And the other place (I found thru the interneet) was completely in Japanese (http://www.kiwa-group.co.jp/restaurant/i100304.html;).
any body knows about it? understands Japanese?
I would like to know if they have private bathrooms and a curfew.
Thanks for your help in this matter.
Illeana
PS: being a coffee addict, I also would like to know if there is nearby a place for good coffee? TX

According to your web link, it is stated that :-
1) all rooms come with attached bathroom and toilet
2) check in at 3pm and check out at 11am -- there is no mention of curfew
You can download a pdf file from the website by clicking こちら(pdfデータ 2.3MB)

I cannot comment on the hotel you mentioned but I would like to recommend Hotel Iroha. Very centralised, convenient and affordable.
U may seek suggestions from VTers Heywinks or j-san. They are very familiar with Kyoto
Happy planning.
